Peter’s Deptford Retreat (16 Mile)
Brewery : 16 Mile Beer : Peter’s Deptford Retreat Style : Russian Imperial Stout Variance : None
9 / 10
The same brewery that is home to “Killer Tiller”, a brown ale brewed with every punishing pepper known to man, also managed to make this amazing Stout that rivals some of the best breweries I’ve had. I have no idea who Peter is and I’m just going to assume without looking it up that the Deptford they are referring to is NJ (cause we rule) but none of that matters cause this beer transcends it’s fucking name. It has a big coffee and smokey flavor to start with a little bit of a dark chocolate roast finish. It’s a great example of the style and definitely worth the 10 minute trip from Dogfish Head to their brewery to get your hands on this. Highly recommended for stout lovers and anyone who loves big, black…beers in their mouth. Not a great starting point for those who haven’t broken their stout hymen due to the strong flavors but don’t worry, you’ll get there eventually.
