EPHEMERA by Zoe Kirk-Gushowaty

Iris Film Collective is pleased to present the second installation of IN HOUSE, a series of month-long residencies where collective members create film and light works at the Falaise Fieldhouse (3434 Falaise Avenue).

EPHEMERA is a site-specific installation and accompanying photo book in production throughout the month of March 2017 by Zoe Kirk-Gushowaty. The progression of the work will be on view from outside the Fieldhouse each Saturday evening from 6-9pm March 4, 11, 18, 25, 2017.

Ephemera explores the medium of moving image as an apparatus able to speak through space and  time. Filmed in the dune fields of White Sands National Monument situated between White Sands Missile Range on one side  and Holloman Air Force Base on the other. A landscape of changing forms reveals the organic movement of the passage of time and temporality while the installation made up of 16mm colour film loops disrupt that passage creating its own logic in patterns of time and rhythm.

(NOTE: This installation is seen from outside the building. The Fieldhouse is closed while the installation operates.)

The photo book will be available at the Vancouver Photo Book Fair April 21 to 23, 2017 at the Western Front.

Zoe Kirk-Gushowaty is an artist working experimentally with moving image and sound. She works primarily with 16mm and 8mm film incorporating live elements of sound and performance in exhibition. Zoe received a BFA from Concordia University in 2008. Since that time her work has been presented in Canada, USA, Europe and Japan. She is a founding member of the Iris Film Collective in Vancouver.
