The brooch has been converted from an Officer's service dress cap badge and features a rayed St.Patrick Star mounted with detachable pierced gilt motto "Quis Separabit MDCCLXXXIII" on a blue enamel ground. To the center is a green enamel shamrock bearing three crowns set on red enamel saltire on a white enamel field.
