18 year old me was upset watching Finding Nemo at midnight, not thinking she’d make it another night…28 year old me is currently watching Finding Nemo sharing an ice cream sandwich with her almost 2 year old while her 3m old is asleep upstairs. I pinch myself often thinking that this is all a dream and if it is…I hope I don’t ever wake up.

Looking at my old unofficial transcript online pretttty much kills me. Toward the end of my degree I was slingin' courses left and right, 18 credit semesters, A's on A's on A's on maybe one B..you know. Then I look at my first couple of semesters and am like, oh, a 12 credit semester with all entry level classes.. what in the hell kinda twiddling of my thumbs was I even DOING. Literally probably could have gotten the same grades comatose. I feel like I have mad dog 20/20 to blame in here too.

a little bit of old wisdom, i thought i was so clever when i was 18

STUFF I LEARNED IN UNIVERSITY School- Get projects over with early. Do the readings for the class. GO TO CLASS. Take notes. Don’t sit with your friends. Tape lectures. Buy a printer. Write out notes. Get sleep first, drink coffee later. Read books that you enjoy. Proof read, peer edit, double check, reference. Take cool courses. Make sure you never study something you don’t love. Remember, professors are not teachers. They are there to lecture, not to make sure you understand the material. This is the time to step up and put as much effort into your education as you want. You’re always going to have another chance to party, but chances are school is a one shot deal. You’ll look back and laugh at the stress of exam week.  Boys- Date like a guy so you don’t get played like a bitch. When in doubt, “he’s just not that into you”. Don’t sweat the small stuff. Don’t let a disappointment get you down or affect your performance. If he wants you, nothing can keep him away, if he doesn’t nothing can make him stay. Don’t change yourself for something that is not meant to be. If he’s not treating you right, then fuck no, you can’t be friends. A friend wouldn’t mistreat a friend. If something bothers you, speak up. He is NEVER more important than you are. If he cheated with you, he will cheat on you. Make him miss you, or he takes you for granted. Move on when things are not like before. Don’t ever settle. Trust me, you're better off anyways. Love sucks. “Boys suck, but don’t worry. You can hide the hickeys.” Having Fun- Dating is fun, but don’t get caught up in looking for Mr. Right. Don’t worry about making solid plans. GO with the flow. If you are with your friends, you’ll have fun. If you’re not having fun, you need new friends. Stay up late on weekends. Eating is a social activity. Do things outside. Take lots of pictures, you never know when you’re going to need a memory to cheer you up. Sing together. Have a ritual every week. Laugh Out Loud. Be yourself. If you want to partake in something, do it even if you go alone. Don’t rely on alcohol for a good time, although it can never hurt. Every day you wait is another day you won't get back again. A morning of awkwardness is far better than a night of loneliness.  “You never take it seriously, you never get hurt. You never get hurt you always have fun” 

Friendship- You will know right away if you click. If you don’t feel like you belong, you probably don’t. Inside jokes will make your life. If you don’t feel like you can admit anything without judgement, you need new friends. Bend over backwards for them. They’ll do the same when you need it most. Nicknames. Everyone must bring a different quality. That’s what makes a good super hero squad, and that’s what makes a good group of friends. Keep in touch. Get together a lot! Laugh with each other, not at each other. Share clothes. Stand up for each other, even if it means making enemies. Only the strongest friendships will matter. Don’t keep track of owed money; it will all even out in the end. Plan to be friends forever or it’s not worth it
