The Salon Rose at Villa Noailles, designed by Robert Mallet-Stevens for Charles and Marie-Laure de Noailles in 1923, features a geometric glass ceiling designed by Louis Barrilet. The style is neither backward looking nor too coolly modern, a sensual departure from the rigid dogma put forth by his contemporaries, namely Mies van der Rohe and Le Corbusier. With the assistance of architect and decorator Djo-Bourgeois, Mallet-Stevens conceived a comfortable style with soft upholstery and curvaceous forms based on classic models. * From my blogpost Monsieur Moderne at http://theartoftheroom.com/2013/05/monsieur-moderne/ * #robertmalletstevens #denoailles #marielauredenoailles #charlesdenoailles #louisbarrilet #djobourgeois #modernism #softmodernism #hautemoderne #modernarchitecture #artdeco #streamlinemoderne #cubism #villanoailles #hyeres #1920sdesign #theartoftheroom https://www.instagram.com/c_w_interiors/p/BwzJzVUJWSE/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=m1mginxdhzr
