Hi, do you have anything on OLC Skimble? Anything about the character or the song is fine with me - I'd love to know anything!
Hm. Not much that isn't in Kenn Wells' wiki page! But it's interesting to note that the creator of the role wasn't Scottish or even English, but (white) South African...
also a beautiful cryptid, like all the OLC. look at him. 😌
John Thorton as Mungojerrie and Bonnie Langford as Rumpleteazer in the original 1981 London cast!
Please look upon this fabulous Tantomile.
Heather Lea Gerdes, London 1984.
Shoutout to the original London production in which Macavity was played by the Mungojerrie actor.
And they say that all the cats whose wicked deeds are widely known—I might mention Mungojerrie, maybe even Griddlebone!—were only the DISGUISES of the cat who all the time just liked to dress up in a bunch of different costumes to wreck things.
Look at those fabulous leg-warmers. Maybe Mungojerrie just likes floofy leg-warmers and jumpers and everybody panicked, did you think of that?
oops he got into an argument with Munkustrap about his fashion choices
Mungojerrie just likes his short jumpers, okay? leave him alone.
(All John Thornton except for the last, which is Richard Pettyfer.)
Happy 39th anniversary, Broadway Cats! As a gift, we bring you: the official Cats insta account getting confused over dates.
Cats opened in London on 22 April 1981, and on Broadway on 7 October 1982 - so 2021 is the 40th anniversary of the musical, but not of the Broadway production.
A medley of Victorias performing the white cat solo. Too late for Dame Gillian's birthday, but this is the sequence that always reminds me most strongly of her voice.
(Almost to 2021! I don't have footage of Tyler Lotzof in that final pose, but the Vienna revival is still technically ongoing despite certain temporary setbacks, so at least it brings us up to current productions.)
In the lead-in: Phyllida Crowley Smith (1998 film); Anique Bosch (Dutch tour, 2006–07) ; Allison Little (Fifth US tour, 2010–11)
In the solo itself: Finola Hughes (London 1981) ; ?Alexandra Young (Vienna 1984) ; ?Angela Savage (Zurich 1992 - and Lindsay Chambers' Mistoffelees scooting off into the corner); Rebecca Sutherland (Hamburg 1999); Teresa Cora (Madrid 2003–04) ; Georgina Pazcoguin (Broadway 2016) ; Mykaila Symes (RCCL/Oasis 2017) ; Hannah Kenna Thomas (Vienna 2019).
Trevor Nunn on directing ‘Cats’.
