Fran Drescher meets screen legend Elizabeth Taylor on The Nanny episode entitled Where's the Pearls?, originally broadcast by CBS on February 26th, 1996. Elizabeth's storyline about searching for her priceless missing pearls stretched across four back-to-back sitcoms in what CBS dubbed "Liz Night", with Taylor also appearing on Can't Hurry Love with Nancy McKeon and Mariska Hargitay, High Society with Jean Smart, and Murphy Brown with Candice Bergen. The episode of Here's Lucy Fran refers to in these gifs was entitled Lucy Meets the Burtons and was broadcast by CBS on September 14th, 1970. In the episode, Lucille Ball mistakes Richard Burton for a plumber but then finds Elizabeth's massive diamond ring in his workman's outfit after he leaves, tries it on, realizes it ~was~ Richard Burton while simultaneously getting the ring stuck on her finger. Fun Fact: while The Nanny scene was played for laughs, Elizabeth was actually quite generous about letting people try on her iconic jewels, once stating: "I adore wearing gems, but not because they are mine. You can't possess radiance, you can only admire it. I've never thought of my jewelry as trophies. I'm here to take care of it and to love it, for we are only temporary custodians of beauty." Following Elizabeth's passing in 2011 at the age of 79, a significant portion of the $156,800,000 raised at the Christie’s auction of her legendary jewelry collection was admirably bequeathed to The Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation in order to continue providing the services and assistance she believed were important in perpetuity, with the specific focus of providing nutritious meals (as well as medical and financial assistance) to people living with HIV and AIDS.
