@matzahball
For a second I didn’t realize it meant “high” as in a stoner--I thought “High Geologist” was like a rank of geologist or something and he was insulted you would challenge him to naming stones
great poast every one👍
I have drawn him.... The High Geologist
Can’t believe he’s ace
He is now And here’s the photo evidence:
hey guys...https://twitter.com/MatthewLillard/status/1322648148364324864 so does this make it canon?
the high geologist has ascended
every time i see this post it gets.... better? but also weirder.
You know, of everything I’ve drawn, I should have known it would be weed-smokin, rock wieldin, asexual centaur shaggy to stampede off into the sunset; bringing hope, acceptance, and weed to millions in need
Can the people who keep buying High Geologist throw pillows please show me your couches
If you don't have Nick Cage Blood Pillows alongside it I'll be very disappointed
I watched some videos by that guy who set up a fake ICE hotline to get people to snitch on members of their community. Not only is this very real and useful praxis- he's preventing these ghouls from reaching the real ICE- he also handles the calls in a really amazing way.
For the most part, he doesn't make accusations or insults people, he just repeats back the appalling shit they're telling him. And they get fucking furious. The example that went viral was him fielding a call from a kindergarten teacher who wanted to report one of her student's parents.
This absolutely disgusting piece of shit thought that the parents were "illegals" who were "taking up resources" because they weren't born in the US. The child was a US citizen because he was born here, but she wanted the "ICE" agent to "look into it."
So this dude just starts repeating stuff back like "so you want me to load the parents of the 5-year-old child you teach into a van and deport them, right?" and this bitch has the gall to say "you make it sound terrible 😅" in a self-conscious way. And then when he finally makes a more direct insult by nonchalantly saying that the 5-year-old "must be a major threat to national security," she demands to speak to his supervisor (which he agrees to and then makes no effort to change his voice for lmao).
This is far from the only call where the whole "repeat their rhetoric back to them" tactic pisses the caller off, too. As rotten, immoral, and disgusting as these ghouls are, I believe there's a tiny part of them that is aware of how fucked up their beliefs and behavior are. Being forced to confront that leads to painful cognitive dissonance and they'd rather lash out at the person who criticized them than look inward and do some self-reflection. Forcing people to confront their own cognitive dissonance of "I'm a good person" clashing with "I have objectively gross and harmful beliefs" is useful, even if it will never go anywhere.
Something that also got me was how the teacher kept looking for OP to soothe and assuage her ego/conscience and got progressively more agitated when he wouldn’t. This is someone who desperately needs to think she’s a good person who is doing good things when what she’s doing is objectively heinous.
She thought she was in the right because she was trying to tear apart this family in a “polite” and indirect way. She’s not the one holding a gun and herding people into an unmarked van, after all. The fact that her call would have directly led to that outcome doesn’t register as culpability to her until OP makes her connect the dots. THAT’S why she got upset, because she was forced to acknowledge the blood on her hands.
So if for some goddamn reason you still have tiktok? Maybe delete it
This shit is dystopian as fuck
Delete it as soon as you can do not fucking use the app at all
united states gov: tiktok is a threat to national security! united states gov: now we have the app so we can be a threat to national security all we want :) specifically the security and safety of marginalized people
i dont need to tell anyone this but theres a White House App out and do not download it even as a joke
Literally do not. Like. if you already did then you may want to factory reset your device(s) and change any possibly affected credentials
According to people who work with code, this may actually be able to close a 911 call because Trump wants to send a fundraiser email through it.
It also seems like it will go off, sound and vibration, whenever someone posts. Trump is awake at 2 AM. You will not be able to shut off your phone or stop the noise until you handle this. It will also drain your battery by being a surprise 2 AM noisemaker.
Don't put it on your phone. It's actually stealing less data than I expected (I mean, yes, OBVIOUSLY it's tracking your location and sending that to any cop who's bored, but it isn't taking any credit card info, so hey, that's nice), but it still can access and fuck up anything saved on your phone, record any unlocking method you use including fingerprint and face, and seems to want to do so to force you to suddenly have an explosion of noise.
Again: this may extend to dropping a call for an ambulance.
Don't install it.
The official White House Android app has a cookie/paywall bypass injector, tracks your GPS every 4.5 minutes, and loads JavaScript from some
NEW INFORMATION CAME OUT!
Based on this article and other discussions with tech people, the app:
Provides your location, every 4.5 and 9.5 minutes, to Trump and company;
Can copy, modify, or delete information on your phone;
Can alter webpages you visit through them;
Has multiple security flaws;
Is creating a personal profile on users;
Can, in fact, interrupt phone calls, no definite answer on 911 but very likely;
Is showing signs of being spyware in unstated ways.
DO NOT INSTALL THIS.
some of y’all will be engaging in witch hunt, accusing writers left and right and then wondering why more and more writers take their works down and don’t share them with you ungrateful losers anymore.
“this fic looks like it was created by ai” yeah that’s because ai was trained on human-made works and it was trained to mimic human-made works.
you claim you hate ai because ai harms real artists, yet you are out there accusing and harassing artists because “their vibes just aren’t right”. at this point, you are the ones who cause more harm — to art and the writing community — than ai does.
you are the ones killing art and writing community, the community you want to “protect against ai”.
so at this point, you’re killing the community faster than ai is. good luck when the community you want to protect has no human-made work left because you accused and harassed genuine artists/writers away and the only things that are left for you to read are actual ai-generated fics.
if you think a fic is ai and if that bothers you like it does me, quietly exit the tab and avoid their future works like a normal, decent person. because with every "this fic looks ai" comment, there's always a chance of you wrongly accusing an innocent writer and further harming the writing community as a whole.
Gentle reminder that most "AI detection algorithms" are actually just asking a LLM. Which in turn means that the "99.9%" doesn't mean a goddamn thing. It doesn't actually perform a review. It doesn't have a means to test shit. Every discrete thing it can attempt to test on with the tools it has is, necessarily, something appearing in the work LLMs cribbed their notes from. The first paragraph of Frankenstein comes back as "100% AI." AI DETECTION IS PURE HORSESHIT.
If you're going to call out bad writing - which you usually shouldn't, on a free site, but let's say the author has asked for critique - saying that you used a machine to judge their work unworthy is just as lazy as if they used a machine to produce the work. Judge someone for repetitive words and phrases. Y'all, we were laughing at harlequin romance for overuse of the word "huskily" for decades before LLMs arrived. Judge someone for not remembering what side their own characters are on. Judge someone for mixing up where objects are in their own scenes. Judge someone for lack of parallelism errors - That's where the part after a comma doesn't actually have anything to do with the part before (He leapt from the balcony, the cult growing stronger.) Judge them for nonsensical metaphors and similes.
If you think someone's using LLMs to write and they've asked for critique, still don't accuse them of using an LLM. Think about what's wrong with the piece, and tell them that. Find examples in the work. If you're pointing out actual flaws, then if they're innocent you're helping someone improve, and if they're guilty then pointing out that the outputs of the tool are shit might get them to stop using the tool.

this is absolutely concerning, but we've been through times like this as a community before, and networks exist to transition without the state's permission. Also check in with any trans community members, especially trans elders, to see if there are local diy networks near you
Something people often forget about the Malvinas and it gets lost when people say "they're not THAT important, it's just a bunch of sheep farmers" is that the Malvinas are also, for the British, a military base to keep control over the South Atlantic; this is exactly why the British took them and the other South Atlantic Islands in the first place, with the intention of having a pointed lance against South America and anyone who threatens British interests in the South Atlantic or Antarctica (which, I don't think I have to tell you, are in the opposite side of the world from the British Islands)
Now that their empire is gone they still try to cling desperately to those small pieces of control, but they will be eventually gone too. When we talk about the Malvinas as a piece of modern colonialism we're not talking about some poor sheep farmers who do nothing, we're talking about an historical military and colonial presence in South America that has no business being here.
(British or anyone else who clowns here will get an instant block, the post itself is crystal clear, están avisados)
how does this even fucking happen

Wow. Wikipedia image not any less mammal that is caterpillar.
last network effect chapters destroyed me here's a shitpost
some of the notes i'm getting on this post genuinely mean the world to me by the way.
when I was a kid I thought the weather guy on TV controlled the weather and he was just telling us what he was gonna do for the next few days. when he said "30% chance of rain Thursday" I thought he was just guessing how likely it was he'd wake up in a rain mood that morning
I feel like I need to explain. there was a whole internal logic here. there was fucking worldbuilding. I knew there were different weather people on the news in different places and I thought each one was the weather decider for their local area. I knew the word "meteorologist" and thought it was a scientist who had expertise in weather control technology. I never questioned why there was bad weather sometimes because "bad weather" was subjective, after all, I liked cloudy days and snow. and the plants need rain, right? so I figured the weather guy probably had regular meetings with local farmers and gardeners to make sure the amount of precipitation and sunlight we were getting was working out for the crops. I never spoke about this to anyone, because I thought everyone knew. at some point my parents had said "this guy on TV tells us what kind of weather we're going to have" and I misunderstood exactly one fundamental point and built out an enormous set of logical conclusions from there. this lasted from like age 3 to age 6 btw
Remember all you. THIS is the post that triggered Rita's ban.

Not to sound like a decrepit, rambling corpse about it, but back in my day Word used to be a pre installed program that came with your computer, if you were running Windows.
No subscription. Just program.
On your computer. You got to use it forever and ever and never had to worry about it going away.
Because it was physically on your computer. As a program. That you actually owned. Not because you got it separately, but because it was a standard inclusion with your computer.
I'm sorry but I'll just never get over it. I remember when companies cared about their products being usable out of the box. I remember when our things belonged to us.

TBH I've never read a fanfic that's better than most published books because I read good books
I've DNF published books that were truly awful, but there's one that just sticks out to me because the book itself was probably fine, it was the translation that was bad.
I read a lot of detective mysteries, most of my physical library has books of this genre, and I was gifted one that had been translated to my language.
It was an awful translation. It was inaccurate, the grammar didn't make sense, I had to read one line three times to understand what it said. It was as if the person doing the translation simply sent it through Google Translate, never revised it, and then just sent it as is to the printer.
It was bad.
