Last week, right before Christmas when I had a go-zillion Tittle orders to deliver, the weather outside was truly frightful. It was rainy and extremely windy...a devastating combination for people, like me, that suffer from the inability to use an umbrella properly. At one point, my arms were full of Tittle boxes and I was trying to balance my umbrella on top of the stack while stabilizing it with my chin. Needless to say, it was a complete disaster that ended with me just leaving my umbrella on the sidewalk of downtown Louisville while some charitable soul waited patiently to hold the door open for me. I swear, I think I was more wet than if I had just walked quickly from my car to the building. There was a similar experience walking to class during a deluge in college. That day my umbrella kept blowing inside out and I got so mad that I just threw it in a campus trash can and walked in the rain. I say all of this to simply illustrate that I am BAD at using umbrellas...always have been.
When thinking about documenting this issue, I realized that it is extremely easy for me to highlight my shortcomings. I think it's mainly because usually I find them ridiculous and I LOVE ridiculousness. Since I don't want this to become a "Bashing NordBlackman" blog, I have decided that anytime I feel compelled to list something I'm bad at I also have list something I do well. It's like my own personal yin-yang.
Sooooo....as unexciting as it may be, I am good at finding deals. Like, REALLY GOOD. Nothing makes me happier than to buy a quality item on clearance. I LOVE wreck rooms at peddlers/antique malls, the sale room at anthropologie, outlets, TJ Maxx/Marshalls, and junk week (a time when people put their old stuff on the side of the road so the city will pick it up and haul it off). The key to finding a great deal is to be picky about it and to search with patience. Otherwise, you will end up with a house/closet full of crap. I only buy things I have the space for and truly love. I leave walls, floors, and spaces empty until I find what I'm looking for at a price I'm willing to pay. I think, even if I had all the money in the world I would still shop this way. It's exhilarating. What can I say? I'm addicted to a good deal.
In conclusion: 1 BAD=using umbrellas. 1 GOOD=finding deals. Real Truth.
