Carnival Stockholders Meeting
From jonthompson
Who: Carnival Cruise Corporation is the most profitable corporation in Miami Dade, but pays less than 1% of its profits in income taxes. In the last three years, Carnival has received $1.2 billion in tax breaks and other public subsidies. More of Carnival’s profits goes to lobbying politicians than to our communities!
What: On April 11, Carnival holds its annual shareholder at the W Hotel in South Beach. While the officers and owners of Carnival meet to vote on executive pay, the 99% will call on Carnival to pay its fair share in taxes, create good jobs here in Miami, end the shameful income gap between CEOs and everyone else, and take corporate money out of our democracy. A rally will begin outside the W Hotel at XXam to support a small group of educators, faith leaders, and community residents who will be going inside the meeting to speak on behalf of the 99%.
Why: As taxpayers, it’s time we take a stand against corporate tax dodgers! We need corporations like Carnival to pay their fair share because when they skip out on paying taxes, we lose out on building a better economy. Come join us on the 11th!
