NKRAs transformation programme can uplift TNB's image
KUALA LUMPUR, May 16:
The government was confident that the six National Key Result Areas (NKRAs) under the 1Tenaga Nasional Berhad Transformation Programme could uplift the image of Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) to a higher level, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
He said the transformation programme, which was launched today, covered improving relations between the utility company and the supervising authorities and beyond customer satisfaction.
It also outlines efforts for the company to expand into new ventures, manage costs and operate efficiently, transform the organisation and consolidate Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd.
“We must make sure a culture of excellence exists, meaning we must chase excellence, we must always be efficient in reducing costs, empowerment and seeking commercial opportunities. Everything must be given attention.
“Do not forget integrity because everything will have no meaning if there is no integrity,” he said at TNB’s Labour Day 2014 gathering at the TNB Sports Complex here today.
Ppresent were Energy, Green Technology and Water Minister Datuk Seri Dr Maximus Ongkili, his deputy Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid and TNB chairman Tan Sri Leo Moggie.
Najib said the government always gave attention to what could be done to ensure the government-linked company achieved the status of regional champion and global champion in providing electricity in future.
“That is why we have to consider matters that at times can be difficult like whether to increase the electricity tariff or not.”
He said the country’s economic growth and quest to be become a developed nation might remain just a dream if one of the fundamentals, that is supplying uninterrupted electricity at competitive prices, was not given priority.
“TNB’s history has been excellent, I know those serving TNB are loyal… once with TNB, always TNB,” he said.
Before ending his speech, Najib read out a short note written by a TNB staff who congratulated him over his fortitude and prayed for his wellbeing.
“A TNB employee just now passed me a note, it reads: ‘Congratulations Datuk Seri, may Allah bless you here and the hereafter for your fortitude in leading the nation’.
“You have made my day, thank you,” said Najib, to which he received resounding applause from the 2,500-odd TNB staff gathered there.
