hello is the anime fruits basket safe? i heard it has some weird pedophilia undertones but im too afraid to check
Hello!! I’m so sorry for the late response to this :( unfortunately neither of us mods have seen fruits basket… from what research I’ve done, however, there does seem to be themes of childhood abuse (I don’t think sexual, but I may be wrong) which can be triggering for some people. Adults are known to talk about Sexy Time but I haven’t heard anyone say the kids do it, nor that the adults talk about it towards the kids (although it may be around the kids)
Additionally, probably the biggest thing I’d look out for is the fact that the characters who can transform into animals end up transforming back into humans while nude. Some of these characters are adults, but some of them are children, meaning this can be uncomfortable for many viewers. The people discussing this said that the shots aren’t posed sexually nor is anything actually lewd shown (I mean, thank fuck) - but I have yet to verify that.
I’ve also heard that the anime takes liberties from the manga, but I don’t know if these effect the rumored pedophilic undertones are affected by that at all. (From what I’ve heard, it’s like the FMA ‘03 anime vs the manga.) Although, like FMA, it’s getting a revamp anime in 2019 that will be more accurate to the manga!
I would suggest that if shows like Miraculous Ladybug make you uncomfortable, Fruits Basket will probably not be a good anime for you. But if anyone has more detailed information, please, let us know so we can help out anon! ;;
