The Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway (L&YR)Class 5 was a class of tank locomotive with the weird wheel arrangement of 2-4-2T. A total of 310 class 5’s were built between 1889-1911; they lived to see work not just on the L&YR, but also the LMS and BR. withdrawals began in 1927 and ended in 1961. The first of the class, No. 1008 is preserved as a static exhibit in the National Railway Museum; Unfortunately the remainder of the class was scrapped.
