20 Time Project- Checking In
I sure love grinding out the entire rough draft for my research paper the day before because I have no planning ability and sleep isn’t apparently necessary to past me. Thank you, past me, for this. I appreciate it.
This is not at all my teacher’s fault, but simply me not wanting to just do the work. I spent the weekend doing other homework when I should’ve given this top priority. Oh well.
So then, progress update. In finding more sources, I’ve discovered a lot more about my project and how people actually think about it, and how people are desperately trying the same thing that I am. It turns out I am not alone in my quest against stranger danger. Who knew there were other weirdos out there?
This makes my paper a little more complicated than I thought it would be, but I’m glad for it. Having a lot more to talk about is far better than repeating the same points again, which I tend to do. Have I ever told you guys procrastination is bad?
Tune in next week for another reason I have accomplished not much!
Time to pick up the pace - 20Time
As both the school year and 20Time are warping up, I need to start getting things done again. I’ve been kind of coasting as I’ve been dealing with things like finals and other wrap-up school work. However, now it’s time for me to start working towards the finished product of my project, the flower dictionary. I have all the information I need, but I need to really get started on the physical product, and hunting down all the people I want to work with and encouraging them to start finishing up their parts as well.
[X]
I’m not too worried about the time, though. I think that the rest of this is still very manageable in the time I have, and I should still be able to create a good product. I just need to start scheduling my time a little better and working towards it. As a result, I plan to do my best to work on some of the project on every weekend and free time after school, so I can make sure the product isn’t rushed!

20 Time Project- The Beginning of the End
First of all- what’s 20 time and why should you care? Very good questions, if not a tad bit rude. Let me explain. Google launched a program called 20 Time at their company, where employees would have 20% of their time at work to be able to dedicate to a personal project, completely paid and with any resources that they require. It seems like this might be a waste of time, to dedicate so much of all of their employees time to personal projects, but the creative minds at Google proved it’s usefulness quickly. 20% time is where the idea for Gmail came from, an idea that revolutionized the way we communicate and use the internet. It originated from a single employee who approached the company with his idea and sold it to them, allowing it to expand into what we use today.
My english class has decided to do the same, and has decided to focus around something that can impact an issue we have in society, such as depression, hunger, or violence. 20% time is built to be open, without many restrictions on what you choose to do, and therefore is very different than what many students expect and have done in the past.
With all this freedom, it is hard to focus and find something that you want to, but this blog is dedicated to figuring that out and documenting the process. I hope you enjoy the inevitable madness this blog is bound to become.
