This "ether" was thought to carry particles (of light, for example, or information from radio waves) from one place to another.

²影 - while ordinarily translated as "shadow," this can also refer to light from the stars, moon, etc. It can also mean "an ominous sign."

³This line could probably be translated as "my existence is deficient," but it's written like 僕　存在が希薄だぁ, so I wanted to keep the choppy pattern.

⁴壊れてしまう日 - literally "the day that breaks" or "the day that is broken," or it could refer to the day that the investigation breaks.
