WillCat received Jellycat toys from Matteo in honour of his late older sister. Catherine's jellycat is lemon tart toy while William's a Pickled Onion.
The toys gifted to W&C hold a special meaning as when Liz who at that time was battling against a rare cancer was invited by The Prince of Wales to Windsor Castle in 2024 to capture an investiture, so that she could complete her bucket list, he and The Princess of Wales also decided to invite the family to stay for tea.
They asked their team to find out what Liz’s favourite foods were. Sadly, at the time, her cancer was at such an advanced state that her sense of taste was affected, and she was having trouble eating very much at all. When Liz’s parents told them she adored lemon drizzle cake, William and Catherine got the Windsor kitchen to make a special cake just for her.
Liz later declared it the best she had ever eaten - and even towards the end of her life would still talk about how amazing it was.
Thus, Matteo felt that the lemon tart would be the perfect gift for Catherine while William received the picked onion ‘Because Liz loved all things pickled'
