THE STRONGEST 2013 COUNTDOWN LIST IN THE UNIVERSE
This list will be of the best and greatest 13 action figures released in 2013! (i have excluded 1/6 scale figures from my list because i dont collect them as of yet and i think that they would probably take up the entire list! also there is the extreme price differential. the same reason i excluded my pick of best overall toy for 2013 and the reason i changed this from "best toys" to "best figures"!)
#13 3-3/4 inch naked brock sampson
the best character from the show gets a figure in his most defining form. naked and covered in the blood of his enemies! not 100% naked obviously because then all us male fans would feel even less masculine compared to the perfect specimen that is brock. he is the ultimate cartoon human killing machine, just dont tell him he skipped leg day.
#12 jungle hunter predator (unmasked 2 pack version)
so far this is THE predator! the masked version is cool, but this guy... he is the best. for me this is the definitive predator. he has the standard great predator neca articulation and that awesome roaring unmasked head sculpt! at least until the next wave of kenners including the rumored "rogue predator" come out, this will be my favorite one yet.
#11 TMNT classics rocksteady
my favorite childhood tmnt henchman finally got the classic super detailed and articulated treatment! slightly less bulky than bebop (honorable mention), but with way better accessories. they are everything we could want as a followup line to the turtles. they have to make more of these! stay tuned here for more updates on this line when i see them.
#10 striker eureka
my second favorite jaeger and pilot team from the movie (cherno alpha taking both leads) striker eureka is awesome! the only thing this figure is missing is an opening chest that fires a barrage of missiles.
#9 classic collection michaelangelo
my all time favorite ninja turtle. by far. i sold all my tmnt toys at yardsales when i got into marvel comics as a kid... something i've regretted for years. but not anymore! now i have my mikey back and in mint condition!
#8 marvel universe hercules
when i saw this version of herc was getting a marvel universe figure, i was amazed and very excited. his less common costume is a delight to see in figure form and the face/headsculpt is really perfect. his lack of a costuming or armor gives him an extreme range of movement. my only problem with this figure is that the plastic does feel a little less durable and he can be pulled apart pretty easily, but his display value is infinite!
#7 john j rambo (bandoliers version)
for me, stallone and rambo are the second biggest action star and action hero of the 80s. so the rambo figures this year and promise of more by neca had and have me drooling. the articulation is great and can strike almost any classic pose. the headsculpt isnt as good as neca's predators dutch, but it is obviously stallone and so obviously rambo!
#6 the 50th anniversary union jack dalek
i have all the doctors and a growing collection of daleks. i love the daleks! (who doesnt?!) i sadly havent purchased this one yet, but it will be the crowning dalek in my collection when i do. its larger than the others at 12 inches and with the best dalek paint job ever. it being a 50th anniversary special edition just makes it that much cooler! did i mention it talks?!
#5 1/4 scale 1966 batman (ADAM WEST)
i was raised on adam west batman reruns. so all the 1966 batman toys got me pretty excited this year, but none so much as this one! the best detail, the best articulation, the best accessories and at an amazing size! this figure has single handedly sealed the deal. i need a neca 1/4 scale figure collection. the next one i get will definitely be 1989 batman.
#4 the diecast legacy megazord
i grew up watching the first power rangers line up and stopped when it changed. so the only megazord for me is the dino megazord! i also never had one when i was a kid. so finally getting this was wish fulfillment a long time coming! the articulation isnt great, but it matches the original. the to scale and fully compatible legacy dragonzord is coming out this year!
#3 dc unlimited dark knight returns batman
the dark knight returns has been my favorite batman design and story since i read it years ago. i always wanted a toy for him. there were a few, but they werent right for me. that box set was cool, but that just didnt do it. then they came out with this one and it was all over. this is my definitive 6 inch scale batman action figure. the sculpt is incredible and the articulation is only limited by his bulkiness. but the limited range of movement really seems fitting for his old ass.
#2 jungle encounter dutch
dutch really almost made it to number 1. i had to think hard and long about these top 2. sure he could have had 5 diff spots on this list, but that just wouldnt be fair. i really do love each and every version of him that came out, but this is the one. with one quick cut, his vest comes off and you have the determined shirtless dutch ready for battle. or hell, pretty much any shirtless arnold you could think of! i just wish he came with his own bowie knife and sheathe. again this is another example of neca's pretty standard awesome articulation.
#1! generations titan class metroplex!
he was unstoppable this year! the size, the articulation, the detail! the trailers for fall of cybertron gave me chills. hearing metroplex's voice and then seeing him holding that tiny optimus made me lose my mind. then they announced this toy and i knew i would need it, but i didnt know he would be my favorite of the year!
you get the honor, my friend. the last of the metro titans, the 2013 champion... metroplex!
thank you all for reading and even more so for following the strongest mustache in the universe! here's some fun i have personally had this year with many of these very same toys.

Kanye West - Yeezus
If you're surprised at this, you don't know us (or what the name of this blog means). It had to be. It had to be Yeezus. His was the best record of 2013--angry and rough, but again changing music unlike any other artist. His was the best live show of 2013--an epic performance, putting all other "shows" to shame. His was the best media roll-out of 2013--releasing the first single New Slaves by projecting his face onto walls all over the country, and later releasing one of the most amazing videos of the year in which he made "every white trash t-shirt come to life." He was the best internet fodder of 2013--becoming a father for the first time, proposing to Kim, and saying more than a few ludicrous things. His was the best outfit of the year--teaching us all what leather jogging pants are, and that masks are a thing. His was the best attitude of the year--repeatedly challenging everyone to deny his artistic genius (especially Sway, who does NOT have the answers). Blood on the Leaves is such a perfect example of who Kanye is: an incredibly well-produced song, sampling one of the most controversial and powerful songs about civil rights and blackness in America to make a song about getting your side girl pregnant--making people want to hate a song that they just couldn't. (Some will say they singularly hated the song for it's lack of respect, but I guarantee that when no one's around and that TNGHT beat drops, they put on the ugly face and start trashing.) People love to hate Kanye, and he doesn't always make it hard for them. But to deny his artistic genius is just...fucking ridiculous.

Chance the Rapper - Acid Rap
Acid Rap dropped on April 30, and I have yet to stop listening to it. Chance was a force to be reckoned with this year, topping most hip hop charts with this, his second mixtape. The album is like nothing that's come before it. With a huge variety of influences and inspirations, Chance has made something new and timeless. There are hints of Chicago juke, gospel, rock, and of course, acid jazz. There are a number of great features by other young artists we love, like Vic Mensa, BJ the Chicago Kid, Childish Gambino, Ab-Soul, and Action Bronson. There is talk of love, sex, drugs, death, and family. There is a heart-breaking audio portrait of the violence in the south side of Chicago and the havoc it's wreaking. We've written a lot about Chance here at the PP, including a review of this album, which you can read here. As he reportedly continues to reject huge record deals in favor of free releases and lucrative tours, Chano will continue to impact hip hop and music in general. And we can't wait.
