I mean that’s Cursed in the most enjoyable way possible, and I wish you luck on your endeavors, but I was thinking about that Evil script again, and:
Since Pennywise scares Stan as a corpse masturbating, Stan’s original character arc was probably meant to be a little similar to Bev’s, in that it was primarily going to be about sexuality. Was Stan originally going to be the gay one? Probably not. I can only speculate with my tiny brain what Cary Fukunaga was going for. Pennywise taunts Beverly with fountains of blood, you know, a not subtle metaphor for puberty and menstruation, but because of what that represents to her, becoming a woman and her dad taking a more active sexual interest in her, it’s scary.
What would an arc about puberty and sexuality mean for Stan? I think the final version of the script, making him afraid of the responsibility and pressure his dad puts on him to grow up (the reason his scare takes place in his dad’s office, using a painting that Stan has been afraid of his whole life, probably a metaphor for the terrifying presence Stan’s dad has in his life), is better.
But the scene was going to take place in the bathroom, in a stall, because I read articles saying so. So Stan asking “Rabbi can I go pee” and the Rabbi crying... and Stan’s original character was about budding sexuality? I 100% believe that Cary Fukunaga intended Stan to like, get a boner while practicing for his Torah reading and the Rabbi notices. And Stan wants to go investigate it, not necessarily like, jack off or anything (it might even be Stan’s first time experiencing arousal), and that’s why the Rabbi gets so upset.
That’s the only logical conclusion I can take from that clusterfuck. I mean, the whole script is out there on the internet somewhere, so someone could easily prove me wrong.
Anygay it definitely tracks with Cary Fukunaga, who has some fucked up ideas about sexuality and children and clearly he has some issues he needs to work through.
