Here’s a look back at my fave photos of this year!
I have had a lot of fun this year surprisingly. 2017 brought a lot of interesting changes to my life (and my game). Here’s to a bright new year for myself and everyone who is watching/following/with me. Thank you for following my blog and hope you guys have a wonderful 2018!
2017 Art Rewind! 🎆🎇
This year I had little material for some months, mainly due to me starting MANY projects but never finishing and/or uplaoding them.
Anyway, the positive thing is that it seems I managed to have a more coherent style throughout the whole year (and I improved a bit in comparison to 2016 ;; ) so, that’s nice.
Hope you’ll have some great holidays, and see you all in 2018!
Hey guys, I’m here with something a little different. I decided to put together passages of al the Ratchet and Clank fics I wrote this year and put it into a little 2017 Fanfiction Rewind thing. It sounds stupid, I know, but I enjoyed doing it. So let’s see what I managed to publish in the year 2017. Let’s get to it!
"No Saving Them"
Clank tilted his head. How did he end up so different? What in that factory made him like he was? He was much smaller but so much more intelligent than his warbot brethren. And he had the privilege to make his own decisions and live his own life; he had no directive. Whatever went wrong in that machine the very moment that he was being built made him into so much more than these nearly mindless killing machines. And that wasn't fair. Clank could be free while his warbot brothers live the life of 'kill or be killed'. He knew that he didn't want to be like them, that he was supposed to hate them, but he couldn't help but feel a bit bad.
The small warbot got off of the crate and put his mind back to focus. He was on a mission, so he couldn't be slaking off and spending time in deep thinking. The Rangers were counting on this warbot, and he wasn't about to let them down.
"Universal Hugging Day"
"It has to do with everything because...because...ugh, I'm tired of this stupid act. Come here!"
Ratchet quickly grabbed Clank and pulled him into a friendly hug. Clank simply stayed still, his legs and feet dangling off the ground. For a robot getting hugged by this best friend, he looked very unamused. And he still had several questions. Like:
"What did you say about an 'act'?"
"Eh, I had this little amusing act I planned out about you not hugging me on Universal Hugging Day, but it kinda fell apart on me. But it yielded the same result, so it didn't really matter. Would've been funny, though."
Clank rolled his pupilless eyes. This Lombax was the most ridiculous, nonsensical and careless person he had ever met. And sometimes he questioned why he bothered with him. And that was just the way he liked it.
"Warm and Fuzzy Feelings"
After slamming her hands on the desk, Elaris rushed out of the office and ran down the entire length of the Hall of Heroes. She quickly checked every room and every hallway in case they were lingering in the building. But it looked like that the place was empty. That meant that they were outside and getting ready to take off in the ship. Knowing this, Elaris rushed to the Hall of Heroes entrance and left the building. She saw the Lombax stamped Starjumper on the landing pad outside the gates. They hadn't left yet. She still had time.
She yelled as she approached the ship, "Clank! Clank, there's something I forgot to tell you!"
Surprised, Clank looked outside and saw her. He stood up in his seat and leaned forward, grabbing the side of the ship and looking down at her. "What is it?"
After taking a moment to catch her breath, she let out what she wanted to say. Elaris smiled and made the shape of a heart with her hands. She held the heart up to her chest, "I love you. I'll see you tomorrow."
If Clank was an organic, his face would be bright red. She ran all the way from her office and outside just to say that? She had already told him that she loved him several times today...and vice versa. But he couldn't let this 'I love you' hanging in the air like this. He shuffled his feet a bit and glanced at Ratchet behind him before bending over.
"I love you as well! I look forward to seeing you tomorrow!" Clank said with a big smile, waving to Elaris.
"Unfamiliar"
"Oh...c-cool," the child responded. He noticed the looks on Ratchet and Clank's faces, almost like they were asking why he was asking this through their facial expressions. So he put his hands together and said, "We don't have robots on my planet, Zanifar. I've never seen one in person before..."
When the child explained that he was from Zanifar, Ratchet did take notice on the kid's outfit. It was nothing like the ones that Veldin Fongoid children wore. He was wearing something that resembled a primitive robe. And Zanifar was a planet that had Fongoid villages that had no technology. So it was understandable that he was going to question Clank and his intents since this was his first time ever meeting a robot.
"Can I touch him?"
Ratchet pulled himself out of his thoughts and looked back at the Fongoid child, who looked almost eager to have his question answered. The Lombax gave a quick glance to Clank to see if it was okay with him, and the robot gave a small nod. With that, Ratchet smiled and got down onto one of his knees so he could be a better level with his two short friends.
"Sure. Just don't pull on his antenna. He needs that to help him function, so it can't be damaged."
"Okay."
The child looked at Clank and felt like that he was going to be blinded by the robot's big green and glowing eyes. But he didn't feel scared of him. Clank's appearance made him seem very harmless, but he had never met another robot, and looks can be deceiving. But, the child decided to suck up all of his concerns and shoved them down, and then he stuck out a hand. He placed his small hand slowly on top of Clank's shiny head. The child was surprised at what he felt. The robot's skin seemed cold at first, but then it turned nice and warm, and the metal itself was so smooth. It reminded him of some smooth rocks back on Zanifar.
"See? Nothing to be afraid of," Ratchet said, nearly startling the child. "Especially with him. Clank's the nicest robot that I know."
"Ranger"
At the moment that you pushed me out
I just wanted to drop down and shout
And I felt deep down in my heart that I had some sort of chance
Now as I sit down and frown at myself
My eyes grow wider than anyone else
A wandering warbot is tearing his way through the dark Veldin skies
I'll pull through like a Ranger
Fight like a Ranger
I'll be a Ranger
"Let Me Try"
"Uh, hey, Ratchet?" Brax called out, summoning the Lombax. "Where does this cable thingy go?"
"Oh! That goes right here," Ratchet said, pointing to an outlet behind a tangle of wires.
"Thanks..." The large Ranger tried plugging it in, but his large hand kept getting stuck and tangled up in all of the stray wires. "Uh, I need some help."
"Here, I'll just..." Ratchet plugged in the cable, making it spark a bit. He then grabbed onto the large pile of wires and pulled them towards him. "I'll untangle these for you. I can untangle wires faster than you can say...um...'u-untangled wires'!"
"Thanks, rook," Brax said with a smile. Ratchet smiled back, happy to help.
But I'll be your shield
I can be your lion
I'll dry your eyes if I see you crying
Believe in me and I won't let you down
"Come on guys, we're already making great progress!" Elaris yelled out, inspecting the two newly-made Mag-Boosters. They were a little shaky, but they would work. Everyone was doing a great job. "The Solana Galaxy is counting on us! Let's stop Nefarious and Drek in their tracks!"
"YEAH!" Everyone replied.
Ratchet twirled his wrench and began tightening one of the third Mag-Booster's bolts. Two made. They were getting there. Time felt like it was rushing underneath him like a raging river. They could do this, he knew that they could. They had known each other for such a short time, but he already felt a bind with every single one of the Rangers, and he felt like that he had ran one million miles with them. He knew that they had what it takes. He did, too. They just didn't see it at first. He hoped that they saw it now.
But now we've come so far
I know just who we are
And we shine brighter than any gem between us and the sun
Now it's just you and me
Like it was meant to be
And I'll protect you
I'll defend you
If you let me try
We'll stay together now and forever
Just let me try
"Aviator Cap"
Ratchet always craved adventure, and even his six-year-old mind knew that there were a lot of things to explore beyond the Veldin stars. So it was no surprise that he enjoyed visiting this stand with souvenirs from all over the galaxy. With the Lombax only being a child at the time, one might expect him to take interest in the various shiny stones or awesome looking artifacts or even the broken down weapons. But a Lombax's mind worked in mysterious ways, especially Ratchet's. The moment that his tiny green eyes had scanned the exotic items available, he gained interest in the lonely aviator cap swaying lazily on its hook.
"Whoa, Mr. Grimroth look!" Ratchet squealed excitedly as he jumped up and grabbed the cap. "It's an aviator cap! Isn't it cool lookin'?"
"Looks kinda worn," the younger Grimroth said. "Could be crawling with those hair parasites."
"No sirree, that cap there is fresher than a pair of my trousers right out the dryer," the salesman said, leaning up against his stand.
"That's not exactly a reassuring analogy," Grimroth said with a strange look on his face.
"Mr. Grimroth, can we get it? Please please please? I've always wanted an aviator cap! It'll help me when I'm flying with the Galactic Rangers!" Ratchet said, running in front of Grimroth. He put the cap on his head, which was too big for a child of his size. It loosely gripped his ears and kept trying to fall down in front of his eyes. He smiled, "See? It's a perfect fit! It was meant to be!"
The aging Fongoid looked down at his pleading youngling, whose eyes were sparkling like Torgoff Waterfall on the planet Pokitaru. The Lombax put his hands together and shuffled his feet while trying to put on a convincing begging smile. Grimroth sighed internally. He had known and raised this child for six years and he knew that young Ratchet was prone to becoming obsessed with spaceships and flight gear. And, as his father figure, he could respect that. Even though he could be reckless, he was a good kid.
Grimroth reached into his pocket as a hopeful Ratchet held his breath and began counting separate bolts as he walked up to the traveler, "How does twenty bolts sound?"
"Part of the Family"
"Well, you're different from assembly line robots, remember? You were born with a conscious, and emotions, and a sense of free will. While assembly line robots are made with one track minds. You're one of the few robots who get to acknowledge the fact that you don't have parents," Ratchet said.
"But I do not want to feel this way..."
The Lombax rubbed his chin for a moment, trying to think of something. An idea then popped into his head. "I'll tell you what. I'll be your dad." Clank looked at Ratchet with a very strange and slightly disturbed face. Ratchet took a moment to process what he had just offered and realized how weird it had sounded. "Too awkward? Yeah, yeah that's too awkward."
"It is indeed. I appreciate you trying to help me, though," Clank said with a sad smile.
Ratchet's ears lowered again. He felt really bad for Clank, but he could relate in a way. After all, Ratchet didn't know his real, biological father. He didn't even know if he was still alive. But, unlike Clank, Grimroth found him as a baby and raised him as his own. Ratchet got a happy ending with an adoptive father, but Clank didn't...wait...maybe that was it! Clank didn't have a real father, but that didn't mean that he couldn't have one at all.
"You know," Ratchet started, getting Clank's attention, "you've been living here for a while. Eight months, right?"
"I have lived here for eight months, that is correct."
"And, well...oof, I don't wanna sound cheesy, but...we have gotten pretty close. Sometimes, I kinda think of you as a bit more than a friend."
"How so?"
"Well, to be honest, sometimes I see you as a...a little brother of sorts."
"A little brother?" Clank tilted his head.
"Yeah. And I sometimes think of me as your big brother. And, you know...you're technically my little brother...and your big brother has a dad..." Ratchet stumbled over his words. This was getting cheesy. So cheesy that it would go great with crackers. But he kept talking to get to his point. "What I'm trying to say is...if you want to...me, you and Grim can be a sort of...family."
"Ethereal Gates"
"You have a right to be curious, my son. You see, I have been going to great lengths from protecting the clock from those who would misuse it. However, I am an aging Zoni, and I cannot keep up the fight forever. And that was where you came in."
"Me?"
"That's right. Knowing that I will not be around forever, I decided that it was time to create an heir to the Great Clock and the Zoni throne. You, my son, are that heir. The Zoni who will take my place as the Zoni King and protect the Great Clock from those awful people who would misuse it."
"Wow..." XJ-0461, his eyes filling with wonder again.
Orvus put an arm around his son and looked around the clock, XJ-0461 doing the same. He reached his other arm out to motion everything around them. "One day, every Zoni you see here will look up to you as a king and as a leader. It will be your responsibility to keep everything order, from managing the very core of the Great Clock to simply making sure that the time cleaners are working. Every little detail is important."
XJ-0461 tilted his head and looked up at his father. "How will I know when I am ready to lead every Zoni?"
"When the time comes, my boy, you'll know. Call it a Zoni instinct."
"So...I will have to care for all of this?" XJ-0461 asked. Orvus nodded his head. The spirit reflected on this soon-to-be responsibility. To rule the Great Clock and all of its Zoni, to keep time intact, to protect the clock from people who would abuse it...it sounded like a lot. XJ-0461 was feeling a bit overwhelmed. The concern was clearly showing on his face. "But...what if I do not live up to everybody's expectations? What if I make mistakes? What if...I am not fit to rule the Zoni?"
"Do not say that, son."
"But what if I am...not good enough?"
Orvus took his arm off of his son and instead placed his hands on the boy's shoulders and turned him to him. The elder Zoni spoke gently in a tone that was full of care. "XJ-0461, listen to me. Over four hundred times I failed at creating a son, and just when I was on the brink of giving up, the clock pulled through and blessed us with you. You are a miracle, and you are most definitely showing it. You are a remarkable and intelligent boy who is more than capable of taking the throne. And you are going to do great things for your kind. You're going to make everyone happy and you're going to make me very proud."
XJ-0461 looked down a bit. It really was a big responsibility to take in. And he was still so young to be thinking about this. To stay in the Great Clock and rule over it...it definitely was a lot. But, maybe, he would find himself ready when the time came from the throne to be passed down. And maybe, when he became older and became the Zoni King, he could finally see what the outside universe was like. But, mostly, he simply wanted to make his father proud. The young Zoni looked up at Orvus and nodded. "Thank you, dad. I...I promise that I will not let you down."
"That's my boy!" Orvus said with a chuckle, embracing his son. "I'm so proud of you."
"Giant Robot"
And if it were me
I'd really want to be
A giant robot.
A giant robot!
All I wanna do
Is see you turn into
A giant robot."
The room was filled with silence for a few moments. Ratchet eyed Clank from across the couch. He lowered his book and the Lombax held his breath. The robot opened his mouth and said-
"No."
Ratchet's eyes dropped and he scowled, He reached into his shirt and pulled out papers with his song lyrics on it and threw them. Then he got up and stormed away, "I wasted two hours on this stupid song for nothing."
Ratchet stormed away into his room and shut the door. Several silence seconds passed by before Clank began humming the tune from Ratchet's song.
"It's Dangerous"
When the morning came the next day, Sigmund waited for Orvus, wanting to hear all about the meeting with the scientist who requested an audience with the leader of the Zoni. He waited in Sector One for hours. When Orvus failed to show, he moved on to Sector Two and waited for more hours. He didn't show up. Sector Three, Sector Four, the orientation room, outside the Orvus Chamber...he waited all day and all night. Yet there was no sign of his colleague.
The hours of waiting turned into days. Every day, Sigmund would simply wait for Orvus to return to the Clock. He still did his usual duties so there would be no issues in the facility, but whenever he had a free moment, he would return to simply sitting in many parts of the Clock, waiting. He knew that Orvus was going to return. Maybe Orvus was spending the week on Zanifar? Maybe he was going to other planets as well and his messages about his other trips simply didn't go through? Sigmund would always come up with excuses for Orvus's absence whenever he was waiting. It wasn't like the Zoni to just not come back after he promised he would.
Days then turned into weeks. Orvus still hadn't come back. Sigmund was overcome with concern and he grew increasingly nervous with each passing minute that Orvus was still gone. He had to come back...he wouldn't just abandon the Clock. He wouldn't abandon his race or the Chamber or his duties. He wouldn't abandon his son. The idea of the worst happening to Orvus loomed in Sigmund's mind, but he never wanted to dwell on it. The idea of Orvus being gone...he couldn't accept it. The Zoni had done so much for Sigmund, he didn't want him to just be gone. What happened on Zanifar? Why didn't he come back? What was going on?
"Why did you have to leave, sir? You shouldn't have gone. It...it's dangerous outside the Clock..."
"The Memories We Make"
Take My Hand
Heavily armed commandos marched to their own beat as they stormed the Hall of Heroes gates. The Galactic Rangers stood in front of their stronghold, ready to fight back and protect their base. Ratchet's tail blew with the wind as he readied himself for battle. He noticed a pair of large green eyes looking up at him. A grin came onto his face as he held out his hand.
"You ready for this, pal?"
Clank gave his own smirk back and grabbed Ratchet's hand with his own, "I always am."
Ratchet took his friend's hand and swung the robot onto his back. He then telequipped his Warmonger and prepared for battle.
Sneak Attack
Ratchet breathed heavily as he finally found cover and sheltered himself from the battle on the other side. He could feel himself beginning to sweat and his breathing remained heavy. He had been shot a few times, but he was able to take it. He never thought that it would get this intense. He never thought that Clank was capable of such things. He grasped the gun in his hand tightly as he thought back to it. Clank was able to shoot him with such precision, he wondered why he never showed such skills with a weapon before. He was no match for this robot. If he didn't use his own gun to shoot Clank soon...it would be game over for him.
The Lombax took one last deep breath as he looked down at his gun. He had to find Clank and finally show him his true wrath. If he got enough clean shots, then he would be able to come out on top and end this once and for all-
Pew pew pew!
The vest on Ratchet's body light up with a strobing red light and it vibrated a bit as Clank flew in with his Helipack and shot him with the toy laser gun. The robot giggled as Ratchet fumbled for his own laser gun and attempted to shoot the robot, but Clank simply used his Helipack to dodge.
"Hey come on, no Helipack!" Ratchet complained as none of his shots hit.
"I believe that the only rule of this laser tag game is: do not get shot. Besides, the sneak attacks I can pull off with my Helipack is too much fun to give up. Hehehe!"
The robot flew away after landing a few more hits on Ratchet. As the Lombax's vest flashed and vibrated, he shot up and ran after his friend. "Come back here! You're not winning this time!"
"Life, Pride, and Time"
Orvus smiled as Rho floated down with the green creature in his arms. The elder Zoni took a look at the glowing green entity. A round head, small body, three-fingered hands, large green eyes and two antennas sprouting from the top of his head, it was an infant Zoni. But not just an ordinary infant Zoni, it Orvus's son, XJ-0461. After four hundred and sixty failed attempts to create a son and an heir to the Great Clock, Orvus had finally managed to balance the right amount of life force and energy and created his own child. Though he needed energy from the Great Clock's core in order to survive, XJ-0461 was a stable and living being, and Orvus loved him with all of his heart. The Great Clock wasn't his greatest creation, his dear son was.
Orvus took his infant son into his arms. The small green Zoni fussed in his grip for a moment before he could get comfortable. Orvus smiled and said in a warm voice, "Good morning, XJ-0461."
XJ-0461 responded to the familiar gentle voice. The large green eyes opened all the way and looked at the person who was holding him. He quickly recognized the person holding him as his father, the one who cared for him. He reached up one of his tiny hands at the sight of his father. "Dada..."
Orvus let out a distinctive chuckle before taking his son's small hand. XJ-0461 had recognized the elder Zoni as his father rather quickly after his birth, and he learned to say 'Dada' about a month ago. It warmed Orvus's heart the first time he heard his son say it. And while it wasn't the only word that XJ-0461 knew, Orvus felt happy and proud knowing that the first word XJ-0461 learned to say was the child's name for him.
And that concludes the Fanfiction Rewind. Thank you all so much for the support you’ve given me over the past year, and let’s keep our head held high as we knock down 2018′s door! Peace!
Before I can give you a full look at the 2018 midterms, I must go back to 2017 (actually, as far back as November 2016). This is a make or break election for Democrats, so we need to go back to put some things in perspective.
Jon Ossoff’s run in a Georgia special election was one of the most-watched races of 2017. It was certainly memorable, but for all the wrong reasons. The Democrats had a chance to gain a head of steam before the 2018 midterms but Ossoff’s loss was truly deflating. The image was taken via a screenshot. (Video)
For this timeline, I would like to first look at the fallout from the 2016 general…
