A welcome to Yogyakarta, Java!

Java being synonym for great coffee are recognized by most coffeeholics in this world. But the Indonesian Java island, where the capital Djakarta and the cultural capital and former capital Yogyakarta is situated, got more goodies.

Java is the third largest producer of chocolate in the world. Indonesia is the largest chocolate producer by far outside Africa, more than twice as large as Brazil.

Being a historical, cultural and political meeting point for centuries, the city of Yogyakarta is a place to enjoy great food, being Indonesian or international.

Coffee, any way, please

But the real pleasure is enjoying coffee and a chocolate snack. Sweet tooths will love this of course.

For someone who enjoys his coffee black, no sugar or milk thank you very much, and dark chocolate please: No problem in Yogja!

I had to stop myself from eating some chocolate snack with every great cup of coffee I got in Yogja. The amounts of cups drunk, not so much. Black, of course.

A view at archeology, renaissance and modern times

Museum of Archeology (Muzeum Archeologiczne w Gdansku) is somehow amazing for its building as well as its content. It was originally a main gate in the medieval defence city wall, called St. Mary's Gate.

This gate was first mentioned in 1484CE. In the 1600s the wall ceased as a defensive structure, and was earmarked for common housing. A Renaissance tenement house, Naturalists' house, was build and extended over the years with towers and change of facade.

Heavily damaged during WWII, it was renovated between 1946-1960. The use as a museum was decided during the renovation.

The building contains several smaller exhibitions spread in a rather large building complex. In addition to archeology and history from the stone age in this area of Europe, is also has a large Sudanese/Nubian exhibition of Northeast Africa.

From the tall tower there is a great surrounding view of Gdansk city, harbour and suburbs.

The replica of a galeon sailship for tourist somehow adds to the visuals in this photo. The Black Pearl and its sistership Lew is has its ticket booth and moors here.

The museum is under renovation, and wil not open until the spring of 2023.

Looks like a h**l of a bar When Lux was not obvious enough, you go totally out in the open. It is of course a bit surprising to find a public waterhole with this name in this part of the world. But, this demigod/mythical figure is of no significance in Hinduism or Buddhism. And the importance with the ibrahamittic religions are more important for the oldest ones. This bar and restaurant a bit off the shopping craze at Malioboro serves local food, coctails and beer. Hands up for a good deal! The Pasar Ngasem are the locals market in central Yogjakarta. Veggies, fruit, kitchen staple food and meats are the common offering, but there are small stalls offer the ordinary haberdasheri you find in any market in this part of the world. They sell readymade streetfood for breakfast and lunch, but the activity in this area was low during Ramadan. For obvious reasons. And yes, this is one of the markets where they don't get offended by haggling. Pasar is the indonesian word for market, adapted from the same word in Malay. It origins from bazaar in Tamil, and it means the same as bazar in Persian. Greek greeting in sunset in front of Propylaea The Propylaea is the front of the old main building of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. Today it is a ceremony hall and administrative offices for one of the largest universities in Europe. The frescoes by Carl Rahl was painted 1888 and later. The central piece in the gate show the royal founder of the University king Otto as a greek god surrounded by the 9 muses of art. The muses are the inspirational goddesses of literature, science, and the classic arts in the hellenistic tradition. To the right of this building is the modern Academy of Athens, to the left the National Library.
