It’s been some kind of year and bear with me while I take this opportunity to brag. The highs were exceedingly high and I learnt so much! From being a juror for Doug Wright Awards to tabling Canzine, Zineland and PRFMTO. I had good fortune of meeting the wonderful folks from @tzlcollective this year. I had some personal wins as well. My corporate illustrations are now in published magazines and I have made some long strides with my anxiety. For all the heartbreak of this year, I have still managed to do things I couldn’t have fathomed even a year ago — sitting through day-long council meetings, finding myself in nature and feeling an immense bond with the island. All this for a person who couldn’t leave her house for longer than 30 minutes at a time, not even 2 years ago. Apologies if this sounds smug and self-congratulatory, but it’s a Coles Notes version of mental illness and recovery. I hope that people reading take heart and find a way to list their own wins. Even the little ones.
