LONG post: I joined the WIA mentor/mentee program a few months ago (oh, and my mentor? She’s PHENOMENAL and I just 💗 her). She looked through my portfolio and while she loved the lineup she found the 2 weakest characters (design-wise) and 1 of my assignments was to switch their poses to display their personality better outside of the generic and/or overused poses. I’ve been working relentlessly on fixing things up and adding some new stuff (hence the massive lack of posting). With all my sketches done I’m now into the phase of spend-countless-of-hours-outlying-and-forgetting-sleep-is-a-thing... no need to be concerned! I actually feel my most productive in this mode (staying calm under pressure and whatever other phrases are out there about that). My drawing increased by 100 fold. Just about everyday unless something insane is happening. It comes and goes... but that’s life. I never really post progress pictures in general. Mostly because my style changes with every drawing that it’s hard to see any actual progress and development of a style. With working on Magicademy for over 3 years now with a relatively consistent style (aside from the before times when I was trying to find a style for them and had a million different styles for them) I’m more than comfortable drawing them in the same style because it’s been an ALL the time thing. So, Brand on the left was done March of this year and on the right was drawn this September. Seeing my progress is AMAZING! It’s amazing to me because my style didn’t really evolve since I started working with my mentor. She’s encouraged me to push my limits and boundaries and styles. It wasn’t as scary as I thought it would be (even if it was anxiety inducing at first lol). Anne has really helped this evolution. I can’t thank her enough for encouraging and pushing me to go past what I’ve always done.
