can you BELIEVE the 2019 we’ve had.......we all WATCHED them looking so In Love like this and we were just like Nope. Can’t be! And little did we Know these were SOULMATES IN LOOOOOOOVE
move along there’s no need to read this fun reflective piece about my failures
Total number of completed stories: let’s not talk about it
Total word count: my scrivener draft has 70k words. no need to speculate about how much of those I’ve actually posted
Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you’d predicted? I know it’s hard to believe, but more. That hot second last feb/march where I posted like 5 oneshots in two weeks? that’s a RIDICULOUS accomplishment for me. like, beyond my wildest dreams
What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in January? edbella, and probably the one-sided james/alice garbage currently chilling in my WIPs
What’s your own favourite story of the year? Not the most popular, but the one that makes you happiest? a tie between Red Line and Seventeen Inches
Did you take any writing risks this year? What did you learn from them? None that I’ve posted, but. y’all should see some of the stuff I have in my drafts. I read a lot of risky stuff this year, and definitely let it inspire me. now I just need the courage of my convictions lol
Do you have any fanfic or profic goals for the New Year? I wanna finish Steadfast, Distant in Humanity, and the requests I still have left
My best story of this year: I still maintain that it’s Red Line
My most popular story: technically Distant in Humanity but I don’t count that because it’s all due to the pairing. other than that, The Biology Incident and Seventeen Inches were hits because smut (or innuendo, in that second case.)
Story of mine most under-appreciated by the universe, in my opinion: you’re all very tired of hearing me talk about Red Line and yk what, last time I talked about how I considered it my most under-appreciated work it got some lovely comments and now I consider it appreciated. thank you friends
Most fun story to write: hmm. Red Line’s companion piece is really fun (I love when my faves commit mURDER), as are my Cancel Me fics (Prelude to Hatefucking and the as yet untitled ‘what if the cullen adoptive sibling incest thing were real’ au)
Most Sexy Story: I think it’s Seventeen Inches but ymmv. it definitely got the most engagement and interaction, and created my lovely reputation as #1 Size Kink Hoe in the fandom, so. that’s a fun outcome
Story with the single sexiest moment: probably also seventeen inches lbr I haven’t written that much we could call “sexy”
Most “holy crap, that’s wrong, even for you” story: again, the stuff I actually let y’all see is extremely tame. but here’s an excerpt from the “what if we were actual foster siblings who hooked up” piece:
“It’s Jasper,” she mumbles.
“What?”
Alice lifts her face half an inch, enough to enunciate. “…It’s Jasper.”
“No,” says Rose. “I heard you the first time, I’m just struggling to understand. Jasper as in our brother Jasper?”
Alice’s head shoots up. “Do we know any other Jaspers?” she shouts. “And Jesus, I just told you I’m sleeping with him, don’t call him ‘our brother!’ He’s not my brother! He’s your brother!”
Story that shifted my own perceptions of the characters: hmmm, maybe Overprotective Fool? it didn’t change so much as solidify—it was more like once I started writing it it was like “oh, of course I know how they’d behave, of course I know what they’d say.” I just hadn’t known that I’d known, if that makes sense
Hardest story to write: oh definitely Prelude to Hatefucking (again, the real title is Climate of Emotion) because it has some of the same vibes as Steadfast but a very different world and a very different history. Steadfast is similarly tough but I have a much more concrete idea of exactly what’s going on beneath the surface there
Most disappointing: idk I’m not really into The Only Chance She Could See. it feels kinda silly
Easiest story to write: So many were easy this year! Red Line happened in a single feverish afternoon, Overprotective Fool was really vibing, and The Strange Yellow-Eyes was completely delightful from start to finish
Biggest surprise: when I actually finished and posted some things
Most unintentionally telling story: APPARENTLY IT’S SEVENTEEN INCHES LMAO
Story I’d like to revise: none of ‘em because I already edit way too much before posting
Story I didn’t write but will at some point, I swear: PTHF. also the goddamn witch AU aka the Lima Syndrome AU where jasper is nicolas cage no I will not elaborate
Well, it’s been a few years since I completed one of these surveys! Strangely enough, I pick the year I hardly read anything to complete it but here’s to baby steps 🙂 This survey is put out every year by the lovely Jamie at The Perpetual Page-Turner so be sure to pop over there!
