April 27, 2021: Queen Letizia attended a meeting at “FundéuRAE”.
Since the start of its activities in 2005, Queen Letizia has followed the work of FundéuRAE, accepting its honorary presidency in January 2021.
The Urgent Spanish Foundation is a non-profit organization promoted by the Royal Spanish Academy and the EFE Agency and whose main objective is to promote the proper use of Spanish in the media.
This initiative was established in 2005, the result of an agreement between EFE and the BBVA bank, with the advice of the Royal Spanish Academy. Its team of journalists, linguists, lexicographers, orthotypegraphers, proofreaders and translators offers daily recommendations and answers to the queries they receive, in order to be a tool that helps all those who use the language in their daily work. The RAE and the EFE Agency constitute the “FundéuRAE” board of trustees, which is chaired by the director of the Royal Spanish Academy, Santiago Muñoz Machado, and the vice-presidency is Gabriela Cañas, president of the EFE Agency.
The Royal Spanish Academy and the EFE Agency reached an agreement through a framework collaboration agreement to relaunch the former Foundation for Urgent Spanish (Fundéu), which was renamed “FundéuRAE”. The objectives with which “FundéuRAE” begins this new stage show the work for the correct use of Spanish in the media, mainly in those of public ownership. The Foundation encourages rapprochement and collaboration between the Spanish-language media in Spain and America, as well as in the Philippines and Equatorial Guinea, to better defend the correct use of the language according to the RAE and ASALE guidelines.
“FundéuRAE” will work to become a world reference in the correction of journalistic language and to promote the linguistic training of the editors of the media that are published in Spanish in the world.
