I finished the blanky! Started 24th Jan 2024, finished it Monday 29th Dec 2025. Isn't it gorgeous?

Trying my hand at socks now

First Rye sock is nearly done, just have to finish the toe.

However, I have been Distracted.

Partner admired my blanky

even though he said it was Crystal Palace colours

which fuckin horrified me

what does the world look like through his eyes?

Anyway, same pattern, aran yarn for a denser knit, only three columns of colour (never wrangling 11 balls of yarn again!), and an intarsia cast on for neater top & bottom edges

The end draws near and I look at this thing and think - What of EARTH was I thinking of to make it in narrow stripes?

The original plan was one broad strip of purple in the middle flanked by narrower strips of dark blue. Why did I change the plan? WHY???

I do like the pattern, though. I've done 7 of the major pattern repetitions,

40 rows each, and the last one is 'only' 39 rows with 8 rows to finish it off.

Might well finish by the end of the month.

Apologies for the poor colour reproduction (purple & navy). The top pic is closest to true, even though tweaking the colours makes my wall look neon green.

Thanks to the long Easter weekend got 19 rows done this week - was aiming for 20 but my wrists hurt now, can't imagine why 🙄

So that's 99 rows done, 220 to go

Actually showing reasonably true-to-life colours for a change, turns out natural light really helps

Anyway, half way through now at 160 rows, and since it's finally getting warm here in the UK the blanky is getting a little uncomfortable heaped up on my lap and spilling over my legs, so time to stash it for the summer.

Working with 11 balls of yarn is such fun 🤨 When I first started I was disentangling the strands of yarn and reorganising the balls after every row! I soon realised that was going to be unsustainable.

I figured that if I lined up all the balls like so then the first twist would be strands from from balls 1 & 2 (on the far left), the next from balls 2 & 3 and so on until the last twist in the row would be strands from balls 10 & 11. So when I turn the work, the first twist would be the strands from balls 10 & 11, and the last from balls 1 & 2.

The next bit I just got lucky. The first row I tried this with was working the right side. I couldn't see the tangling of the strands because they were behind the work. This is what the strands look like after working the rs; the strands lie on the wrong side.

Then I turned the piece around for a ws row and of course all the tangled strands were in front of me. (This was the lucky bit.) I could see each twist as I approached it and so could twist the strands in the opposite way, to disentangle them.

This might be a perfectly normal technique of yarn management in the world of knitting; maybe I'm showing my knitting grandparents (cousins in craft?) to metaphorically suck eggs, in which case, sorry, I suppose? But not really sorry, because I worked it out myself, it works, and I'm pleased with it.

Back to normal levels of production this week: 11 rows completed, taking me up to 110 rows altogether.
