“Perhaps we should come back later.”
“ -- If I wanted you here to speak, I’d have spoken to you first." There’s a pause. “.. but no, we wait. He will come.”
The flight had been rather jarring for Trish and the sting of tiredness behind her eyes was only setting a mild irritation for her mood -- as well as the president’s tardiness. She had tried to catch some sleep earlier before inviting herself into his office when he was out of it; but the racing excitement mingled with an impending sense of caution was a powerful tool to keep her mind awake.
Passione was a powerful syndicate, with ties outside that surprised even her. It had started an innocent investigation enough; discovering the correspondence using American names and English words. An oddity to have among the strictly Italian organisation. Though, as she dug deeper, learned more and more, not so strict.
Her cat-like curiosity lead her to this point, as well as an incredulity that the ties ran so deep as to the very top. Unfinished business was a dirty affair, and whilst she might have been able to fix it in her spare time, something of this nature, of this importance -- and power, required her full rapt attention. It was luck alone that the broken promise hadn’t soiled the foothold they had in America -- but how long was that going to last? One of these days, he might call to collect and demand more than what was initially promised.
Trish was here to prevent that and perhaps, if her arrogance would allow that, gain more than what she started with. Had she her way, she would strip him of every inch of his worth; bleed him dry. The whole country would be hers.
But, for now, it was damage control. Her finger idly toyed with the golden plaque on the desk she sat at, the name ‘FUNNY VALENTINE’ reading back to her.
How.. unfortunate.
Her gaze was ripped away from the littered items to the door beginning to open and with it, she inched to the edge of the desk; one leg drawn over the other. She would be the first thing he saw when he pulled that door back, as would her voice be the first thing to greet him.
“ -- It’s about time you arrived, Mr. President,” she sweetly told, the way the title leaving her lips like an insult than a respect; her accent thick as she spoke English. “Passione sends it’s regards. Shall we proceed with business?”
