I want to start this review with a big congradulations to Nicholas Sparks for an amazing 20 years of work. With a long list of not only books, but books that have turned into great movies he has become a household name. In 2002, I was first introduced to the world of Nicholas Sparks through the release of the movie A Walk to Remember, I was 17. Two years later the heartbreaker of The Notebook movie came into my world, at this time, I still had no idea about the books that came before the movies. It was at somepoint in 2010, when I picked up The Last Song, that I learned about the books that I'd been missing out on.

This is an adorable cover. I don't know a single women in this world that wouldn't have a smile at the sight of a man dancing with his little girl. It adds a little pitter pat to the heart beat, not unlike when you see a man with a baby, and you all know what I'm talking about... don't deny it, it's human nature. If I was walking down the aisles of my favourite book store, this cover would catch my eye from the shelf. It's a cover that would call to me, getting me to pick it up to further investigate it's story line.
World Building: 2/5
I found it a struggle to get through this book. It took me 10x longer to finish it, then I regularly average with my books. The main character Russell seems so completely oblivious to the goings on in his own home for a long period of time and uses it as an excuse to brush off the problems that arise in the day to day life of him, his wife and their little girl. The wife, Vivian, quickly turned into a character I hated, every interaction with her left me waiting for things to change in the story. Now it's entirely possible that I didn't relate to the characters because Ive never been in a similar situation. Ive never been married, Ive never had a kid and Ive certainly never been divorced. I didn't love this book, it wasn't something I was excited to sit down and read, it wasn't a story that left me curious, yet I don't regret reading it. I'm even glad to have read it, I've been able to see the world from some different perspectives and I feel like I've learned something about the otherside so to speak.

I've always picked over Nicholas Sparks books for the ones that interest me the most, these are typically the ones that have been turned into movies. The Notebook, The Last Song, A Walk to Remember ... these all remain some of my favourite books. This is partially because of the writing style of Sparks, his books flow like a river.
While I might not define this book as a must read, don't shy away from it either. There are lessons on perspective, and dealing with family to be shared in this book.
