I have a long week ahead, I already know I’m going to need this.
Aha! I got it uploaded!
I was tagged on Facebook by @deartreadmill for the 22 pushup challenge to raise awareness for those that suffer with PTSD. I’ll post most of the videos there but I wanted to share the one from today. My dad saw my post and said he wanted to do them too!
Watch: Liberal Redneck shows what it really means to support the troops with #22PushUpChallenge video.
I don’t believe in the #22 day Push Up Challenge. For those that don’t know about it, [and you’re not missing out.] the challenge asks people to do 22 push ups for 22 days, and tag a new person every day. The point is to raise awareness that an average of 22 veterans suicide per day in the U.S.
IMO, it’s a bullshit vanity ploy for men to pretend they understand PTSD and to really show that they work out at the gym. Women are almost never tagged in this challenge, ‘cause it’s a ‘bro challenge for bros’. At least the ALS ice bucket challenge had a link to a website explaining ALS and a donation box for research funds. How can people claim to raise awareness for suicidal veterans without ever explaining why veterans are suicidal and how people can help them cope with their thoughts of suicide, depression, and/or PTSD?
I mean if you didn’t know veterans and suicide was a common combination, great, now you know. But what can you do about it besides scream about it through your muscles? There should be links to charities that focus on helping combat veterans get their lives back together, or provide therapy and financial support.
Please don’t support suicidal veterans by recording videos of yourself doing pushups. Take real action instead by volunteering or donating money, or at least do some research and inform yourself [and others] why this is a phenomenon that society/the army should pay attention to more.
No seriously I hope the Caps are all on their group chat coordinating who’s gonna be doing pushups next, mocking those whose pushups were not deemed legit, and racing to nail their various and unsuspecting teammates across the time zones with challenges. One can only hope.
Oh shit son, Karl Alzner throwing down the 22 Pushups challenge to John Carlson, Tom Wilson, and TJ Oshie.
