Viele rufen an, doch ich geh nicht mehr ran. Alle wollen wissen was mit mir los ist, doch ich hab keine Lust irgendwas zu erklären, was eh niemand verstehen kann.

Wir distanzieren uns zwar gerade, aber wir haben die besten Jahre zusammen verbracht.

i think a lot about ‘comfortable’.

i picture the word snugly in my head,

watch it arrive back from an average shift,

pad around its medium sized, neat house,

eat from a stocked fridge,

drift to sleep.

content.

then i look up

and match the word to my surroundings.

i watch these bone weary humans

march through their practical lives,

constantly finishing their days on repeat

and holding stilted conversations

awaiting the expected answers.

i watch them drag their children to bed,

then slump into their own and

dream a dreamless stupor.

i think again about ‘comfortable’.

i consider settling,

gently guiding myself into a content life,

causing no hassle or complaint,

no stares or grins,

just easing into it

like a lukewarm bath.
