In the dream, I was at a music festival with a lot of people from different African countries performing. There was someone from Somalia. Someone from Nigeria. Sudan. Kenya. The Somali guy was speaking in Hausa, and as per dream-logic, I didn’t think anything about that was strange.

From behind me, an older white man asked why Africans are moving to Europe. Why aren’t we staying in Africa, if it’s so great? I wasn’t sure who he was asking -- if anyone at all -- but I had all these responses for him. 

It’s not very long ago that Europeans were flocking into Africa. The Berlin Conference was literally less than 150 years ago. That’s about 4 generations. The grandchildren of the people who were walking around back then are alive right now. The problem is, you think of now as the infinite now. Like now is how it’ll always be. Which is probably what they thought 150 ago as well. But now always changes. If not in 150 years, then maybe 300 years. Which, still, is only blip in the timeline of human existence on this planet. So instead of focusing on the now, why don’t you really focus on the now and enjoy the music.

But I didn’t say any of that. I listened to the music instead.
