#8intwo readathon

Last weekend it was time for another fun readathon – #8intwo, hosted by @25infive! They started with a readathon where you aimed to read for a total of 25 hours in five days. This time it was a so-called “mini” readathon where you tried to read for a total of eight hours in two days!

This was a Modern Mrs. Darcy book club pick earlier this year, and at the time I couldn’t find it within myself to finish this book and was contemplating abandoning it, but I received a paperback copy from Capsule Books in their Silence of the Snow capsule co-curated by 25 In Five and I picked up where I had left off and speed-read it through to the end. I loved this book and I’m glad I was able to give it a second chance. I have also read To the Bright Edge of the World by the same author, and loved it. Wow! This is an excellently written mystery/thriller with a spooky as hell, unreliable narrator. It swings back and forth between present and past. What an ending. You won’t be disappointed. I can’t believe that this is the author’s first novel! Read it! I hope she writes more! ⭐️⭐️⭐️ This was the Reese Witherspoon book club pick for May, and it has taken me all of this time, plus a readathon, to finish it. The short stories are well written, but each one has an element of squiriminess to it that is definitely off putting. There was one story that I read through my fingers, because it made me so uncomfortable. Why did I read it, you may ask? Because I sort of liked it, but sort of didn’t.
