28 APRIL 2023 || Day 2 Wales Visit - Aberfan Memorial Garden, Aberfan

The Prince and Princess of Wales visited the Aberfan Memorial Garden which lies on the site where the Pantglas Junior School once stood to pay their respects to those who lost their lives in the disaster in 1966.

They were greeted by schoolchildren at the site, while survivor Gaynor Madgwick showed Kate a number of newspaper cuttings about previous royal visits to the area.

William and Catherine were then guided around the garden by one of the Aberfan survivors, David Davies, and Professor Peter Vaughan, Lord Lieutenant of Mid Glamorgan.

The Prince and Princess of Wales laid a floral tribute at the memorial and the message left by the couple, which read: 'In loving memory.'

They also met trustees from the Aberfan Memorial Trust who are involved in ensuring the maintenance of the garden. William and Catherine also met and spoke to also met the 12 surviving members of the Aberfan Wives Group and the last surviving teacher at the school, Mair Morgan, 81, who taught the five year olds.

During their visit they spent time to speak with the members of public. Catherine also had her bag and heart stolen by one year old Daniel Williams.

Good day today, unfortunately work was very busy towards the end of the afternoon and I didn't like having to 'push' through walking the dog and making dinner before being able to just get in a bath and relax. I could have really used more down time today but that's the nature of the shifts, they tend to have me running ragged. I could have really used a break earlier, which would explain why after my bath my head felt all strain-y... I know what my risks are and need to mitigate them. I have been anxious about money too which doesn't help but I may be over reacting, it's hard to tell... stringent money guys would probably think I'm too laid back. Husband has different goals and concerns, he seems content not to save more, but I think we should. I'm going to trust my gut on this one and think about a fair and sensible budget. I have taken a sleeping pill so I can at least sleep in tomorrow, all being well. Think that will make a huge difference. I've had today as a rest day from the gym and was initially a little skeptical of the need but do genuinely feel better for it now. The protein shakes taste pretty gross but genuinely have helped with DOMS. I have resistance bands now so I can get really serious about glute training.

Experimenting

Taking a colour palette, creating a graphic, which in itself I love, but then morphing it, stretching it, changing it, to experiment with outcomes is joyous! In a word, digital design is malleable.

Here's the first design - I was happy with it. And then I woke up and wanted to play. I wanted to break out of the 1200x1200 which I've become comfortable with recently. I wanted to break the typography. Remove the rigidity.

The juxtaposition of fluid curvature and clean solid line. Typography and Graphic moulded. But what about those softened graphics and gradients? Blur it up, dude! Keep those cut lines to bring back to the typography, but soften, blend and push back the harshness to create something that envelopes, surrounds, contains. Contained, but yet spilling over the edges into the unseen. Contained again by the 1200x1200, malleable contained by the framing of fluidity. Contained in vibrancy.

Graphic art is malleable. Graphic art is expression.
