A stalwart defender, the Leopard 2A5 Main Battle Tank!
The Leopard 2A5 is the result of extensive modernization of the German Bundeswehr’s aging Leopard 2 tanks. Equipped with modern composite armor & an upgraded fire-control system, the Leopard 2 is the latest addition to Germany’s sizeable armored forces.
Developed to replace the numerous Leopard 2A4 models, the largest change of the 2A5 was the new turret--featuring a distinctive, angular front plate composed of high-density spaced armor add-ons, as well as some ergonomic changes. The turret was now wholly electrically powered, allowing for faster rotation and better gun traverse while moving. As well, the advanced laser rangefinding equipment and computer-aided targeting systems already present were improved further.
The Leopard 2′s main armament consists of a 120mm L/55 Rheinmetall smoothbore cannon, the most modern gun used by most NATO forces. It also carries a pair of Rh. 7.62mm MG3 LMGs, one mounted co-axially and one mounted in an anti-aircraft mount on the turret.
The Leopard 2A5 is one of the most modern tanks in use today, and has seen service in NATO peacekeeping operations as well as German border security usage.
