Time Loop #?? - Katrina's Death - Part 2
It has been a long, nearly fruitless day. There were times that I nearly lost people but I was able to step in just in time to keep the worst from happening.
Everything is going to be alright. If I can just keep my siblings from getting in the way. Of course, I have no luck with that.
Katrina had not expected her siblings to disappear, leaving her in the hands of the Americans, while she rested. Honestly, the Prussian should have known better than to rest, to let her siblings out of her sight, even if for a moment. All the other Nations were safely in places where the monster would not go, not anymore; she had made sure of that. Katrina had been through this enough times to be able to predict the monsters' movements.
She could not have predicted what happened next. As she was fingering the key to the front door, the key she had taken and was going to give to her siblings to escape while she held the monster off, it appeared, looming tall and menacingly. Not expecting it, Katrina did the first thing she could think of, her mind racing. Shoving Amy out of the way, telling her to run, Katrina took off in the opposite direction from everyone else, hoping to lead the monster away, knowing it would follow her.
The Prussian did not expect her siblings to suddenly appear in the doorway to the basement and to attack the monster, even as Katrina continued to run. The Monster continues to follow her until she managed to get to another area of the mansion. There she wanted to make her stand.
She did not count on her siblings to jump in front of her and fight.
It was not long before they were down, injured, bloody, Lutz's gun, Monica's knife and makeshift flame-thrower tossed aside, the lighter falling out of sight, and the two Germans about to die that Katrina was able to step forward, staring up at the Monster, her faded red eyes bright and full of anger.
"Nein, you will not kill them. Not this time." She hissed, standing protectively in front of them, sword in one hand.
With a soft prayer to the Heavens, Katrina charged forward, her sword finding all the weak spots she had spent time loop after time loop discovering.
Shining steel met blobby flesh time and time again and claws met undefended cloth and skin again and again. The only sounds were the scuffling of Katrina's boots on the ground, muffled, angry, German swears from Katrina, the splatter of blood on the floor, the walls, everything, and the moaning, hisses, roars and growls of the monster.
Hard fought, the monster finally gave one last piercing roar before disappearing, defeated. Katrina managed a weak grin, to softly say "Es gemacht wird."
Silence reigned supreme for a brief moment, the shock of the end of the battle taking time to register on the two younger Germans who were watching from a distance.
Two, heart breaking cries pierced the silence, reverberating through, not only the room but the entire, dark and silent mansion. The thunder of feet on stairs was heard as the two ran forward to their older sisters side.
Katrina could barely hear them, her eyes beginning to fade and the pain over-writing all other sensory input. Blood loss, along with the severity of her wounds meant she had little time left, and still she struggle to reassure them, a wane smile managing it's way onto her lips as she looked up at them.
Monica hurriedly demanded that Lutz pick up the dying Prussian and move her away from the blood stained room. The younger complied, easily and gently lifting his sister's broken form from the ground.
Back up the stairs they went to another room, where Lutz lay Katrina down on Monica's lap. Katrina tried to speak but the blood in her throat caused her to cough violently, her aching, bleeding form convulsing in pain and shock.
They were silent; there was nothing to say. How do you tell the people you love, your family that is going to be okay when one lays dying? How can you reassure one another when death is inevitable?
Katrina managed only to say one thing as she weakly handed over the journal she had been keeping.
"der Schlüssel .... gehen, laufen. Niemals zurückblicken"
With that, she could no longer hold on to the light around her. Oddly enough, as her eyes closed, the Prussian was glad, glad that the last thing she saw was her siblings. She died, knowing that they could escape and that she had won.
