Ethiopian 2S19
A modern Russian artillery system, the 2S19 Msta-S!
First developed in 1979 under the codename ‘Ob’yekt 316′, the Msta-S is the Russian Ground Forces’ counterpart to the American M109A6 Paladin Artillery System. The Msta-S mounts a 152mm cannon on a T-80 hull fitted with surplus T-72 engines. Equipped with modern fire-control computers and guidance systems, the Msta-S entered service in 1989. The gun is capable of firing anything from conventional High-explosive rounds to utility shells (such as illumination or smoke), and can even fire tactical-nuclear shells. With a range of 24,000 meters, the Msta-S is an efficient artillery system.
So far, many of the details and specifications of the Msta-S are still classified. It has seen usage in both the Second Chechen War and the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, where both Ukrainian forces & pro-Russian Separatists have utilized its destructive capability.
Dangerous and efficient, the 2S19 is expected to serve at least another 10 years in Russian service.
Destroyed Russian armor on display in Ukraine, festooned with Ukrainian flags. These were probably recovered in 2022.
