The Features
"White Flag"
Live @ The Earl
March 7th, 2008
"White Flag" is definitely one of the more interesting Features' songs rhythmically and structurally. The song starts with a deep bass groove and Rollum banging out a rudimentary drum beat completely unlike most anything in any other Features song. It's quite engaging and leads you into that beautiful chorus, as the keyboards enter and the song raises the white flag. This is one Features song that grows on you with every listen, with new layers becoming apparent each time.
This song is one of the few forgotten tunes from the band's current era. It debuted in either late 2006 or early 2007, but since the Features message board was nonexistant at this time I can't determine exactly how many times it was played or even if it was a regular. I remember it being played at least once at one of the New York City shows I saw in fall 2006 and this demo is from spring 2008, proving that it had somewhat of a lengthy life. The song did not make it on either the Contrast EP or Some Kind of Salvation, and it isn't played at shows today.
