i think they're shuffling constantly - will was out with goody and mack earlier; among other liney changes he had made so far.
i wonder if warso’s trying to shake things up a bit because the oilers might alr be predicting what the usual lineys will do - so maybe shuffling players could throw them off??? idk
Another UI change, another years-long mutual who blocks me after I tell people to stop whipping themselves into a blood frenzy acting like its the end of the world and scaring themselves with made-up worst-case scenarios
*sighs* the same thing happened when I told people that the darker shade of blue was not going to hurt you, and I got met with an essay about how it would cause migraines and eyestrain issues. Neither of which came to pass, and everyone forgot about it within a week
I guess its time for another one of these blog posts as I wait for my insomnia meds to kick in
My dash is not unusable because of change, its unusable because its nothing but complaining and fearmongering, so I left for the day because frankly, I have better things to do than steep in other people's panic. I know this place is famously hostile and sees any sort of change as a threat but like... come on. This reaction is a bit disproportionate, dont you think?
I know mob mentality is so easy to follow and so hard to break from-- i was in a culty communist group in uni, I know-- but I cant help but see this reaction and wonder how folks like... function in the real world if this is how they react to a social media site doing something annoying. If you dont like it you can just submit your feedback and move on with your day, there is no need to harass random office interns or to whip everybody into a panic acting like life as we know it will dissipate forever. Its just not necessary nor productive.
And I know this will make me very unpopular because this is very much not the popular take to have regarding it, but I hope i have fostered a following that can at least somewhat handle being disagreed with without going scorched earth about it. Especially on something as small and insignificant as a UI change, because if this is what we are throwing fits over and burning bridges about, I shudder to think of how we are getting on with people in the real world when more serious conversations happen.
I also am of the opinion that I dont really care about it. Like, if twitter isnt imploding in on itself because of quote-rting then I dont think tumblr will either. Not that there arent other issues with twitter but the rts are the least of its problems.
I also find it... rich, how this site suddenly cares so much about artists when they can be used for rhetorical points. The UI is not whats killing creativity here, its that no one will engage with creativity in recent years. A UI change will not change that, the problem was already there. I find this pattern happening a lot here in general: everyone suddenly cares about x when x can be used to shut down questioning against their arguments. It rubs me the wrong way in many cases.
I understand that the world feels scary and doomed and like theres fire all around us, but I cant help but feel you are all just trashing the bathroom when youre acting this way: lashing out against the one thing you feel you have control over because the rest of the world seems so fucked
But I say this as someone whose friends and family are being actively bombed by iran, so i have a few things to be truly upset about wrt lack of control: theres little to nothing you truly have control over in life. And thats okay. That's just life. You dont control the powers that be any more than you control the decisions made by a board room. And thats fine. Everyone is in the same boat and you can either float down the river with a good book and a cooler of beers, or you can fight and thrash and kick against the current screaming that enough of you kicking will change its course while you start to drown. And those of us who have chosen to float might eventually get fed up with you telling us we're morally wrong for doing so and respond in kind by telling you to drown faster
And I think im at the point with this site's culture and general attitude where I start to look up from my book and tell them to drown already if theyre going to make that much racket about the current that wont even notice their mad kicking and screaming, and ask how they plan to handle the open ocean of history and current events and the wider world outside their bedrooms if they cant even handle a warm shallow beach.
