Sorry, i'm currently bothering everyone about this.
I've seen The Dark Knight Rises.
SPOILERS
It works as a metaphor for all the "social layers" and what they'll do once the value of money goes tits up and we'll pay a million bucks for a loaf of bread. It's a story that couldn't have been told as a Tom Clancy-type thriller, there is to much 9/11 in there, it needed to be dressed up as a "pop culture reference". And that's what bothers me most: It's not a good Batman movie and not a good thriller. The almost real world-stuff got in the way of the comic-stuff and vice versa. I like the cinematography tough. The editing is all over the place but i feel that is Nolan's weak spot (i'm only a lighting guy). I want him to authorize Director's Cuts of his movies so we'll be able to experience a more cohesive narative. We have to watch the unnecessary scene at the stock exchange just to see the up-to-no-good truck driver but have to imagine how a broke Bruce Wayne makes his way from secret-prison site to Gotham? On the other hand, some people i talked to didn't even get that the kid escaping the prison isn't Bane until it was pointed out to them. And why couldn't Blake's real name have been Richard Grayson? It was already obvious what he'll become if he surivives the movie. Bane was awesome. I just would have liked it a bit more if he was hooked on venom. It felt a bit cheap that he goes down just because Batman punches his mask. I'm not sure about "Catwoman". What i'm sure about is the ending. Bruce Wayne retiring feels off. I anticipated a Batman INC teaser at the end.
I wish Nolan would have been able or willing to go the extra mile and detach his Batman from the comicbooks like Aronofosky and Miller planned to (see http://bit.ly/M6jiu1 let it load for a while, and http://bit.ly/Oy3ZN4 for concept art while the script was in the works). And show us a bit more Batman in a 165 minute long Batman movie. At this point i'm not sure how to think about TDKR or the Nolan trilogy. I guess when the planned Batman reboot has a bat-credit card in his utility belt i will hold them in the highest regards.
Whatever. Nolan did a Batman movie and i didn't and never will. He sure showed Burton and Schumacher how it is done.
Had a blast with one of her besties Cat!!! Thank u for so much fun. Love u! <3
On the tram back home from the cinema i played "hide & seek", "whack up your hair", "show you have the genes to roll your tounge" and "do the Vulcan greeting finger thing" with a little girl a row in front of us.
I feel a bit....relived and proud that i could connect with a kid in a few seconds.
