“[He] loves romantic songs. The Nationals infielder usually listens to them in Spanish, and they’re usually bachata or salsa, which makes sense considering he’s from the Dominican Republic and Spanish is his native language. But occasionally a romantic song in English catches Difo’s attention. He then finds the name of it, searches for it on YouTube, and pulls up the lyrics to sing along.

’I can practice my English, too,’” he noted, in Spanish. ‘I try to figure out what they’re saying and understand it.’

That’s what happened last week when Difo heard ‘Unchained Melody,’ the Righteous Brothers’ 1965 No. 1 hit, for the first time. He was instantly entranced and looked it up to play it over and over … and over and over again.

‘I had never heard it before,’ Difo said, ‘and I repeated it like 80,000 times.’”

Why? He’s not Cody Bellinger and bootybootybooty.

In all seriousness, he missed the first two months of the season because he was in AAA and still hit 25 home runs. DeJong is a slugger and his defense improved significantly as the season progressed. He’s kind of a cutie and plays for the Cardinals and I am weak.

“’Watch the way Yadi receives balls, how soft his hands are,’ Wainwright said. ‘There’s nothing violent. If he catches a ball that’s below the zone, he’s never pushing it down. He’s always gently receiving it. He’s going to pull it up to the zone ever so slightly, or he’s just going to stick it. And he has those soft hands, so there’s no jerking.’”

“He sets up his target as wide as he can, puts the target right in the middle of his body, and he doesn’t move. A lot of catchers, you’ll see them give you the target and then drop their glove for a little bit and then pull the target back up. So if you’re a pitcher like me that follows the glove, you’re trying to hit a moving target as opposed to a very still glove, which is a lot easier to do.”

Wainwright, who jumped into Molina’s arms to celebrate the final out of the 2006 World Series, smiled and added, ‘Little things.’”
