It's FLYING WEATHER! Quite a change from January/February. Back then it was overcast skies and you needed winter coats and gloves. Now we can fly with the window/doors open on this little beauty. This 1941 Piper J-3 Cub oozes with history. My instructor is only the third owner of this aircraft and he's had it since he was 16. The owner before him was his dad (who recently passed away) and before that, the original owner was a friend of his dad's. This is the Model T Ford of general aviation- the old Piper factory in Lock Haven, Pennsylvania, cranked out Cubs by the thousands to meet the postwar boom in general aviation- there were plenty of other aircraft that were contemporaries of the Cub, but none are as iconic as a yellow Cub with the black lighting bolt on the side. A long time GA pilot recently told me that less than 10% of the general aviation aircraft in the United States have a tailwheel and to get dual instruction in a Piper Cub is like winning the lottery in general aviation. My instructor (he's a retired American Airlines captain) likes to joke that the Cub is Fred Flinstone technology. No fancy cockpit instruments, aerodynamics or control systems. Just stick and rudder flying by the seat of your pants. #avgeek #aviation #aircraft #planeporn #LakeviewAirport #30F #LakeDallas #airport #planespotting #instaplane #igTexas #DFWavgeek #instagramaviation #Avgeekery #AvGeek_SchoolofKnowledge #AvgeekSchoolofKnowledge #Piper #J3 #PiperCub #Cub #splendid_transport #instaaviation #aviationlovers #aviationphotography #flight (at Lakeview Airport)
