Nigga, nawl. So *cracks knuckles* Black women have been the backbone and apex of humans since the beginning of time, as proven by the skeleton Lucy. Since then , we have been as exalted as high as deities, goddesses, and queens of entire empires; we have been as low as animals, chained as slaves, and made to nurse children who would grow up to abuse us. But even through all of this, we have managed to become the most educated class of people on Earth. We are known for our tenacity, beauty, grace, and wit. However, despite our magnificent displays of exemplary examples of God and interstellar glory, we are OFTEN reduced to stereotypes, tropes, trollops, and loud-mouthed mammies. Malcolm X once said the Black woman is the most disrespected, neglected, and unprotected person in America. Even our own counterparts, when keeping things binary, the Black man, can escape his stereotype by dressing or talking a certain way, making a certain amount of money, or these days, just being cool to their White neighbor. But Black women ? We can change how we look then be told we're not loyal to our culture. We can alter the way we talk but be told we are bougie or fake. We can make a certain amount of money then be accused of sleeping our way up or not deserving. We can be nice to everyone and still be feared because everyone knows us better than we know ourselves. Sure, this happens to Black men but at the rate or on the GLOBAL platform that it happens to Black women ? Hell no and you know it.
Prime example: the murders in the last 10 years that fuel the Black Lives Matter movement. So much attention is given for the men but the women? Trans women ? Mentally ill women? Totally disproportionate. But even still, we march for our men, ride or die for our men, carry support and uplift our men. And how do they repay us?
By creating, directing, and filming the despicable scene from Atlanta last week. Donald Glover has the world's attention with that show, an opportunity to uplift Black women, the very ones who gave his Black ass life, and he pulls that shit. Displays a disgusting trope that blends Angry Black Woman myth with Black Women Hate When Black Men Date White Women lies . Thank you SO fuckin much, dude. Let's also add the Black men who date outside of their race then LOUDLY proclaim it's because of things Black women are lacking or things we do (like wear bonnets to protect the fragile crowns that are our hair) instead of just loving who they love just to love them.
Beyoncé has the world's attention right now, too. What does she do? Spotlight ALL Black people. Because that's what Black women do- we help EVERYONE, even if they don't do the same.
So, Black men are trash. Black women are gold.
Something(s) I Miss
My grandma. I know she’s not a “thing” but she is missed, dearly, every day!
Free-flowing happiness. My job has sucked the life out of me and not in a good way. I feel like a prisoner. I have to FORCE myself to be happy here. I’m constantly bullied- by coworkers, by my supervisor, by customers… It’s a sad place to be working but I don’t a choice right now. I have bills and I don’t want to let my mother down. That’s the only reason I’m still in this cell box. (okay, let me pull it back a smidge)
Freedom of my youth. I feel the burden of adulthood wearing me down. Hard.
That’s all I miss. Everything else… was only a flesh wound, word to Monty Python.
