Hey Gems! And welcome back! Different platform but the gems will sparkle just the same! So let’s jump in…
Today’s post is dedicated to an iconic gospel-slash-Christian album, “Heart to Yours” by Michelle Williams. Yes, THAT Michelle! As 1/3 of Destiny’s Child, Michelle held her own next to Beyoncé and Kelly, consistently proving why she was chosen to perfect the trifecta that changed the landscape of pop music forever.
But that solo album!? 😮💨 Teenage KC pulled it outta the archives this month and it’s been helping Adult KC more than she could ever know. “She” being me and Michelle. LOL.
Released in 2002, the album helped me through the struggles of my household, being a freshman in high school, quitting praise dancing, and puberty. And 20+ years later? The lyrics, messages, and nostalgic synthesized beats have the same uplifting power.
Some of my favorite tracks are:
Heart to Yours: a dedication to God, praising God for their presence and reminding the listener how important that omnipresence is in life
Heard A Word: a soft lullaby of the struggles in life that can be assuaged with just a word from above, filled with love
Steal Away to Jesus: classic gospel melody reminding us that peace can be found in the arms of Jesus
Sun Will Shine Again: early 2000s pop bop reminding the listener not to fret and how to fight cloudy days
And there are some heavy-hittin features too! From the iconic Shirley Caesar to gospel superstars Mary Mary and even R&B legend, Carl Thomas!
Today’s Gem? Can’t have a testimony without the test and can’t be a disciple without discipline!
