And I'm wondering, I don't know much about your kidquisitor universe, but if the other protagonists are also there, and I assume are also children, do all of them have the mark? Or does just Lavellan have the mark, and the others are just survivors of the explosion who also happen to be children, or are they more like companions?

oh no! they all exist in different universes

lavellan is just the story that i’ve fleshed out the most, but her story and her experience doesn’t touch on everything that i want to talk about. she’s a very beautiful girl (even if she is an elf) and she isn’t a mage. so i touch more on the exotification of elves and elvhen culture and how certain conversations she has with companions and npcs seem a touch more?? inappropriate. solas probably wouldn’t openly mock her for her beliefs but he would consider her youth an advantage of trying to morph her into something more fitting to his beliefs.

chert is not pretty and is routinely mistaken as a man or an adult or both. she wouldn’t be given the same adoration that lavellan is given, and certain allowances that may follow that. she didn’t have a childhood, being mainly used in forced labor by the carta, and is in fact being trained to handle heavy weapons (a warrior.) she isn’t formally educated and so many think she fits into a lot of the ‘brutish dwarf’ stereotype. there isn’t a lot of coddling by her peers because she doesn’t LOOK like someone to be coddled or even comforted regularly

aiton is older than all of them and certainly LOOKS like an adult, with horns and everything. but he’s still sixteen and he was taken on by the valo kas company for training that his ex-tamas couldn’t give him. he’s also EVERYTHING the chantry hates: male qunari mage. he’s a sweet boy but he’s automatically labeled as a scary thug.

there isn’t a trevelyan kidquisitor because they come from a wealthy noble family that could have easily had an older member slip in easily and become their surrogate and make decisions for them, merely remaining as the herald and just someone to close breaches

the first three have their youth and childhood stripped from them by being named inquisitor because there really isn’t anyone in the inquisition who actively gives them the benefit to BE a kid, who actually see them as anything more than a nice figurehead for the history books. they’re sidled with massive responsibility because it was more convenient for the advisors to have a figurehead after the change to skyhold.

i’m not saying that the companions or advisors are inherently evil, but all of them seem the type to get caught up in their own wants and needs over the inquisitor. the inquisitor (played as an adult) seems to let other people’s lives take precedent over their own. this is considered fine because an adult is given certain established boundaries but with children those boundaries and rights are taken away. ‘because we know better than them’

one it kind of looks like the advisors are using the herald of andraste as a puppet when they put them on the ‘throne’ as inquisitor

two having MUCH older members as advisors would make it really hard for kidquisitor to speak up in meetings because ‘what the adults say goes’ but all three of them get caught up in either their own personal life or the bigger picture to spend time on how they’re treating the inquisitor. like even in canon they sometimes stop themselves and go ‘oh but how are you doing’ and a lot of the responses the inquisitor gives is ‘it’s fine don’t worry about me’ which is... interesting. but because the kid is in a special position of being sort of new holy figure they are now seen as ‘my words have power and i don’t know all the right words because i’m little and all i know right now is fighting and war and what my parents/surrogate told me about the world and how it works’. these kids have to grow up fast because a throw away line will be whispered far and wide and can get people killed and that’s??? terrifying. all three of the advisors are andrastian and DO think that the inquisitor does have some divine power or was chosen by andraste. so the whole ‘you were the only one to make decisions in a time of crisis’? NOT THAT GREAT OF A STANDARD IF THE THIRTEEN YEAR OLD CAN DECIDE BEFORE YOU

also conversations with companions take a really inappropriate context. like dorian ‘you don’t know any better about the evils of slavery than me a privileged altus who has never thought about it before’ or solas ‘lmao fuck the dalish tho. and the dwarves. and the qunari. but you’re special!’ sort of....husbandry going on. with a female lavellan at least it gets really creepy because of this sort of enculturation he may try to force on her to become ‘a perfect elf’ which he, a hypocrite, hates about the dalish.

It probably stems from the very western/american ideology of valuing individualism above the community, where the team succeeds when everyone individually succeeds. But we could definitely benefit from a more community based feminist movement

it’s not a bad thing to be individualistic but there’s a lot of rhetoric that’s sort of like “i like it when i can do this, so it’s feminist” 

sort of like how the actress from jurassic world felt it was more empowering to wear heels/skirt combo even though her character is literally running for her life??

and how most of the sex positive movement doesn’t stop to think that maybe some people aren’t comfortable with sex?? and there isn’t a lot of emphasis on NO as there is on YES.
