Halloween comes from All Hallows Eve, the day before All Saints Day but that like many Christian festivals is built on the bones of the Pagan festivals that came before, namely the Gaelic festival of Samhain. The Celts believed that the boundary between this world and the next would become blurred and ghosts would walk among the living. They would wear costumes and masks and make bonfires and sacrifices to their gods to ward off evil spirits.
