Crockett and Jones needs no introduction. The iconic chukka worn by James Bond, in the movie series Skyfall. In the show, the chasing scene make using chukka make it seem so comfortable to wear.. hehehe
This pair is a surprise find. I have never thought I will ever own this pair as it is not in my list of “want to” in my collection. Prior to this chukka, I have already owned myself a pair of suede and calf chukka, which I think have been completed in this department. Even if I wanted any short boot, it should be in the form of chelsea or Jophur boot. So imagine my surprise when I got it. Called it impulse buy!
Continuing from my Crockett and Jones Sydney review, I have actually saved a fair when I got the Sydney at their factory sale. Since there is a substantial saving and I have already planned for the budget, it is time to get another pair! This pair is on display under 7/7.5uk shelf and naturally I grab it and try the fitting. I have never tried 348 last so I didn’t know how it will fit.

Leather
I have feel and touched the leather when my friend purchased his first chukka which is the tetbury. Ever since then I am mesmerized by the high quality leather by Crockett and Jones .The leather is soft and supple. The creasing test by folding the leather of the upper proved that Crockett and Jones spared no expense by offering high quality leather in their model offering. Crockett and Jones have 2 level of offering for their product, benchgrade and handgrade. Both Benchgrade and handgrade are prduced in Northampton by goodyearwelted machine but more attention in construction and finishing by Crockett and Jones’ skilled worker set the grade apart. On top of that, Handragde level used the finest leather that Crockett and Jones can get get hold of. More info on the difference can be found below;
Surprisingly although the size is 7uk, I am able to wear them due to the elongated toe box of 348 last! There is no feeling of toe pinching at all. When I am at the factory store, I do feel the instep is a bit lower as it is pressing down on my right feet when I am testing the fit over there. Now I have worn it a couple of time and the instep is not as pressing down as much but I can still feel a bit sore on my right instep at the end of the day. Perhaps I will have to bring it for stretching if possible. Not sure if it can be done though.
Other than that, due to the extremely soft and comfortable leather, I do not feel any pain at all in the ball joint of my left foot which I have encountered with my Vass 5 eyelets chukka. Maybe it could be due to the fact that it is a 2 eyelets chukka which the lacing system is not that tight compared to a 5 eyelets chukka.

Overall I am very satisfied with the tetbury. I will not hesistate to recommend to anyone who want to get their first chukka! The soft leather and the sleek design make it suitable to wear with anything. Even with a suit!
