Leah and I completed a 35km walk a few weeks ago and wow, what a challenge it was! We walked the railway heritage reserve trail in Perth, Western Australia. The trail is quite an even walk with just a few hills to endure. We were surrounded by beautiful scenery, other keen hikers, bikers and the odd snake….. Yes, we came very close to a grass snake that crossed our path! Prior to our walk we stocked up on plenty of fluids, especially water, snacks including nuts, fruit, protein bars and sandwiches to keep our energy up and to ensure our bodies hydrated and replenished well! For the most part both leah and I felt great, snacking and drinking often and ensuring we rested well along the way. It was only when we reached 25km’s that our bodies started showing signs of fatigue. We continued to snack on our healthy options and tried to remain positive knowing the end was in sight! While leah continued to show strength even until the very end, I on the other hand began to struggle with the discomfort in my knee that slowly began to become worse with every step I took towards the end! Thankfully, we made it to the finish, exhausted but overjoyed that we made it and didn't up! A big thank you to leah for the encouragement and positive strength she gave. If I wasn't with her on the walk I certainly would have given up before the end!
Just remember guys, continue to challenge yourself, push yourself and surround yourself with people who bring the best out of you!
