Trans Musicales 2013: Louisahhh!!!
One of my favourite music festivals is celebrating it's 35th year!
The Rencontres Trans Musicales with take place from 5th-7th December in my French hometown, Rennes. And I can't bloody wait!
So to share my excitement I'm doing a short series of interviews with artists from the lineup I'll definitely be grooving to this year.
I'm kicking off with no other than Louisahhh!!!, DJ, Producer and amazing songstress recently signed to Brodinski's own Bromance Records. Her vocals have featured on Bromance tracks, she's released her very first EP last April and she's been tearing up dance-floors across the globe with her infectiously raw and warm techno vibes. Over to you madame!
How's things been since your first official EP on Bromance? How was the public's reaction and what have you been up to since?
This year has been incredible. I arrived in Paris in February and went straight into the studio; the EP came out in April. In the prolific words of Drake, 'Nothing Was the Same' hahahah. This year has been nonstop, between touring and working on a follow up to Transcend, a longer 'mini album' for Bromance, it has been a wild, glorious, challenging, lonely, beautiful ride. The response has been beyond anything I could have hoped for.
As a DJ and a singer, do you ever think about the possibility of having to ditch one for the other?
No, I don't think they're mutually exclusive. In fact, I think they inform each other. Eventually, I am working towards incorporating a live vocal component into my DJ sets, but I want it to be innovative, enchanting, sublime - not in the superlative sense of those words, but actually being able to draw an audience into a world, work subliminally, do something that hasn't been done. This is, of course, while telling a story with what is essentially 'borrowed' music...I'm excited even talking about it. The ideas are percolating right now, stay tuned - I don't plan on choosing one direction but growing in both.
Have you heard of Trans Musicales before? Excited?
I have been told that playing Trans Musicales is a rite of passage, and I am thrilled to be a part of it this year!
Trans Musicales is an eclectic festival who's mission is to really push up & coming (and sometimes completely unknown) artists. With this in mind, which new artist you would add to this year's lineup?
What a great question! Some of the tracks that I've been most excited about of late have come from Jubilee and Burt Fox, who have an EP that just came out on Trouble and Bass. It is music that makes me really happy. Jubilee is also a good friend and generally someone who is wonderful to have around. On a totally opposite tip, the best live I've seen recently has been Freeka Tet. He is the most interesting person and performer I know.
Name me one artist from the lineup you would love to go and see on stage?
I want to check out Luke Jenner - I love his work with the Rapture and it's really exciting that he is doing his own work solo, following his heart, creatively. Also: Tiger and Woods, Boston Bun, Optimo, The Crystal Ark, there are so many friends and heroes playing.
What's coming up in your world in the future?
More touring, more working on the album for Bromance. Maelstrom and I have been working on a 'holiday treat', but it's staying a surprise for now...stay tuned!
