March 18, 2018 - 77/365 CURLING STONES I spent the weekend in Duluth for a curling bonspiel; it was extra fun since a couple of the guys from the Olympics team are from that club, and there were photos everywhere. We even saw Joe Polo, the 5th player on team.

1917 PLAN OF MINNEAPOLIS
My friend, Rick, recently bought a book I’d heard about, but never seen before: the “Plan of Minneapolis.” This comprehensive plan for the city, written in 1917, was forward-looking it its use of urban design to help Minneapolis prosper as it grew. It specified everything from the width of the streets to the number and types of trees that should be planted. The key feature of the plan, modeled on Daniel Burnham’s 1909 “Plan of Chicago,” was to create axial boulevards to connect major parts of the city. The illustrations are amazing; they look as if Paris has been transported to the banks of the Mississippi. Sadly, almost none of the plan was adopted. Rick’s copy is number 968 of the 1000 that were printed.
The book begins with a quote from Daniel Burnham, and aside from its sexist language, it’s an inspiring piece of prose:
“Make no little plans; they have no magic to stir men's blood and probably themselves will not be realized. Make big plans; aim high in hope and work, remembering that a noble, logical diagram once recorded will never die, but long after we are gone be a living thing, asserting itself with ever-growing insistency. Remember that our sons and our grandsons are going to do things that would stagger us. Let your watchword be order and your beacon beauty.”

CAT’S CLAW
From time to time I’ll find a claw lying around the house; cats shed them so that they don’t grow too long. This one looks like a dolphin, or Africa.

POOL FLOATY
We’ve been touring tons of homes here in Palm Springs for #modernismweek, and they all pretty much have pools.
February 17, 2018 - 48/365 KNIT WRAP
Today I was shooting for one of my favorite clients, @theyarnery. We photographed a few pieces from their forthcoming spring line. Here’s a small detail of a VERY LARGE and BEAUTIFUL wrap.
February 15, 2018 - 46/365 FISH PLATE FROM MAKKUM
My husband and I purchased this fish plate in Makkum, the Netherlands, in 1998. It was made by a small shop in this town, famous for its blue and white pottery. We searched out the shop when we were there in 2016, but it had closed.
