Firesun Thorpe of Adelaide, Australia.

Firesun has been working with sound for a long time, she worked with Shamanic Healing for a while and she still collects interesting acoustic instruments. Her father didn't want her to have more than two names, so two names she had, until the early nineties when she began using the name Firesun, pushing her first name into second. Officially changing her name in 2001 made her officially become the coolest name I've photographed.

Sonja of Sydney, Australia.

Sonja, aka Jelly, is a fellow photographer and she specialises in the event, wedding, and children's side of things. The last 10 years or so has seen her travel the world, volunteering her photography skills in countries such as Cambodia, Haiti, and Guatemala, and she lived abroad for 5 years, mainly in the Dominique Republic. She's a Barista on the side, a practiser of yoga, a vegan (like myself), and the owner of a one-eyed 14 year old pug.

Steve Spacek of London, UK.

Steve was strolling through the quieter streets of Bondi, with his wife and children by his side, when his unique hair style and cool shades made me curious as to what he does with himself. Turns out he's a very talented musician. A good few years ago he visited Australia and instantly knew this was where he wanted to live, and now he's well established within Sydney's music scene. Music is his passion, what a perfect way to make a living.

Hayley Maree Herewini Schumann-Mitchell of Sydney, Australia.

The epically named Hayley is pictured here working her (pretty breezy if you ask me) job as a traffic controller on the streets of Crows Nest, and the free time that comes with controlling traffic at the far end of a one way street means she can write her own music, scribble letters to old friends, and prepare for her weekend drama classes quite thoroughly. She's been playing the ukelele since just before Christmas, and even without considering she's never played an instrument before, she's getting pretty good - I walked past her playing outside a cafe a few days ago in fact and that rung in my memory. She's already on her second ukelele (this one is called Lucas) and writing songs come easily to her; she's just written a song for a dude she's "got a crazy crush on" which she admits might sound a bit mental to some. She directs theatre, acts as hamlet, cooks a mean triple choc' brownie, she can't afford to drink alcohol as she's got too much to do with her time to be hungover, and here's an awesome tattoo of hers.

Luke Maffesoni of Newcastle, Australia.

Luke is a scooter rider (is that's the right way to word it?) who often travels the few hours from his hometown of Newcastle to Sydney to hang with other scooter riders and make the most of Sydney's excellent facilities for such sports. He's recently finished school and now earns his money working at Woolworths, he plays guitar, and he's soon to start producing his own music inspired by his favourite artists Pink Floyd and Tame Impala.

Stefan Goecke of Hamburg, Germany.

Stefan has arms that enjoy two things; drinking red wine and throwing a frisbee, both of which he does regularly and with skill. Stefan is always keen to spend a night or two in a national park, and living in Sydney he's surrounded by them; Stefan moved to Australia with his wife 14 years ago and they love it. He had a huge love for Cuba in the time he spent there too, adoring the music, temperature, the scenery and best of all, the people, who he remembers can dance like there's no tomorrow. A few years ago Stefan was given the terrible news that his youngest of his three children, Lucas, had Leukaemia at the age of 4. Two years later they've just received the thumbs up, the all clear, and hearing this news at the beginning of December was the best of Christmas presents for the entire Goecke family. The whole experience has given Stefan an altered outlook on the world, a slightly different way of seeing things, and a fresh appreciation for life.
