Often people ask us, why we call ‘SHE36′. Maybe it’s a good time to tell the boring story. Of course the name came from videobible of the fixed gear culture - MASH (2007) with a spicy soundtrack ‘She’ by Misfits. ‘36′ - of course from a zip-number of the unquiet Kreuzberg part, Berlins ‘Brooklyn’. Keirin Cycle Culture Café was located there.
After watching some videos by ITCHY the Movement and trying to find other girls, riding fixed gear, I decided to go to Keirin and share the idea. That time I knew like 5 people riding track bikes in Berlin. No single girl. Luckily I’ve got a lot of valuble advices and some contacts there. Also first logos were sketched in its walls. Our first ride afterparty took place there and it was such a positve start for our group.
All these years we came over to Keirin - to drink coffee, to buy lights and tubes, to stare the showroom (and always find something overlooked), to watch races and see Geschke’s tears in livestream, later for a stand by and chatting with other messengers.
Last week this unique place was closed, after 14 years of inspiration. We all know why and no need to repeat how unfair it is. Just wanted to wish Keirin staying alive in another dimension. Thank you for everything!
